Ok so I've got my caravan off the the car and can level front to back with my jockey wheel .... But then need to level side to side and have my wedge ready but how with out a motor mover ? I can't push the the caravan uphill onto a wedge ? I'd love to go solo but I'm only tempted on very level puitches :( please any advice ?
Level side to side before you unhitch? Check the level once on pitch, reverse slightly more, place wedge in front of wheel needing levelling, pull forwards until level, chock wheels, apply handbrake, unhitch and level front to back with jockey wheel.
that's the way to do it we have all made the same mistake and even had to re-hitch to do the job properly it was easier with the two kids and a second adult and the vans were a lot lighter in those days too bring back the good old days gas lights and hand pumped water with the wast going into a bucket
you'll make the same mistake again you know so don't fret yourself pet
Ha Ha brings back memories of an earlier post a few years ago when i levelled correctly then took the van of the towbar only to realise i hadn't put the handbrake on(TWO TIMES IN THE RAIN). Not happenned again tho' so we do learn by our mistakes.
Just missed out the bit about looking at the pitch before you reverse on to see how the land lies.
Pitch slopes down to the back - before you unhitch, unwind the jockey wheeel down a tad.
Then unhitch. To level the van, with it tilting down to the back, you will need to lower the front end quite a bit to get level and, having the jockey wheel down a bit before you unhitch, means that you can lower the front end so much more than if you have not unwound that jockey wheel before you start. Hope you are still with me.
Remember - pitch down at the back jockey wheel unwound down a bit
pitch up at the back jockey wheel stays wound up before you unhitch

Sounds good, but when I reverse the van onto a pitch, I always have to unhitch & manhandle the van in order to get it square (there are always posts & other vans & stuff in the way, so I count myself lucky just to get the van somewhere on the pitch).
I then have to re-hitch in order to tow the van up the wedge.
An ace caravan wrangler would not have to faff around like this.
