Help!
I going to West west Cornwall soon, & will need to buy petrol & stop for a meal on route.
The (Little Chef) services at Widdon Down on the A30 looks like a good point to break the journey, but I can't tell if there's any parking spaces big enough for the car & caravan.
Can anyone help out with some information?
Alternatively, do caravanners have a favourite spot on the A30 for food, fuel & loos?
I'm terrible at maneuvering the van & can't reverse for the life of me so, somewhere really easy please.
Looked on google maps and there seems to be no caravan parking, but look at the okehampton services you might be able to park look on google maps satellite view
I am sorry to suggest this but should you be driving if you cannot do the basic of requirements of manoeuvring. It is worrying to know that you admit you can't. I would make a point of going on a manoeuvring course until your basic skills are competent. Just remember that newly qualified drivers have to take a separate test now. Is this possibly because there are bad drivers out there that are towing.
2 years ago I had to get into someone's car and reverse it back into a passing place (because he was not competent enough) on the isle of wight because he had gridlocked everyone for over 20 minutes and I was about to miss my time slot on the return ferry.

Training, practising and training that is the secret to making yourself competent. You say give him a break what about people just trying to take their towing test if you are competent you will pass. If not more training end of. Its all about safety, the training doesn't just cover manoeuvring it covers all sorts of towing Scenarios that may save his life but most of all save other peoples lives. These courses are not that expensive, I am far from being an expert but feel as though I am competent. Enough to have my wife and kids in the car.

Speaking as a regular on a trip from Yorkshire to Cornwall (we normally stay near St Ives) my suggestion would be to stop at the last services on the M5 before you hit the A30, just before Exeter (sorry, the name escapes me)
Plenty of room on the forecourts for getting the car and van, in and out and also its somewhere you can park up without causing road blocks.
The A30 can be a very long journey, especially when in traffic so i find it best to have a break before i attempt the big car park
I have done Yorkshire(ish) to Cornwall once. I agree it's a long haul, & Exeter services is a sensible stop.
However we're starting from a lot further south & Exeter is less than half way for us, so Oakhampton seems just right (and not the traffic nightmare that once haunted the dreams of anyone who traveled to Cornwall on a Saturday).
P.S. Thank you to everyone who was so concerned about my driving.
In order to make my post a bit more light-hearted I did over-egg the pudding somewhat.
