I have a large 110Ah leisure battery in the caravan and its taking forever to charge, its halfway up the LED gauge but I leave in the morning and can't leave it plugged in to my house mains overnight. I will be off grid where I am going.
My caravan is old so I suspect the charger in it is a bit weedy.
Can you charge one with a car charger? My car charger has a rapid setting.
It's not recommended to use a car battery charger because the amp rating is too great which can buckle the internal lead plates. A leisure battery is designed differently to a car battery in the fact that although there are more lead plates they are actually thinner so you need the appropriate smart charger really designed specially for charging a leisure battery in 4 stages. I have provided a link regarding leisure batteries which will give you a better understanding.
Since I only need to use my battery for lights, water pump and heater ignition for the weekend I am probably worrying over nothing.
Using it to charge my phone would be very handy. The van has what looks like a narrower version of a 12v car cigarette lighter socket. What plugs in there so I can use the 12 volts for other items?
