We are considering purchasing a Kampa Rally 390, but are concerned about stability in strong winds compared with a standard full awning. Can anyone advise please
As long as you buy the clip on storm straps and rear upright and monsoon poles, then the Kampa Rally should be fairly secure in your average high winds.
Like most awnings, the manufacturers do recommend taking them down if strong Gales are forcast, but thats fairly common sense really, just as you would also try to avoid towing your caravan if storm force gales were forcast.
We have both the 260 and 390 Kampa Rallies, and never had any major problem with them yet.

The kampa is an outstaning awning an possibly safer in wind than a square type awning however buy the storm attachments and take down in gale force wind ..a bit abvious eh
Put it this way. We have just got back from Tenby which took a severe beating from the wind Thurday night. 2 awnings and a tent were fatalities but our Rally 390 was fab. We had the storm straps on and it was pegged inside and out. It did us proud :-)
we got our kampa rally 390 pro.a few weeks ago,new with inner tent, from camping shop,we also purchased large can of waterproofer(fabsil),as we intend leaving the awning up for longer than the 2-3 week stretch,(we don`t tour with the van,we are sited.)and the chap at the shop suggested giving it a coat of fabsil,as it will give some protection against sun exposure.lol!
The ground needed levelling,(our old canvas porch awning was ok,but wanted to get the best possible fit for this lightweight,)
Finally got to put the awning up on wednesday,(6th june).
We were pleased with how quick it went up,then we heard the forecast,!!although initially,we only heard rain,so we carried on.
Leaking or condensation????it`s beginning to look like condensation as over the four days even with the rain we have had ,it hasn`t got any worse, probably will use fabsil though if it continues.(don`t seem right having to waterproof a brand new tent ??????)
As the wind increased!we added two extra guide ropes,we already had storm straps, rear upright poles, and monsoon poles, and Mr.T. drilled/put in self tapper on awning rail to prevent any potential slide.
There is a bit of noise, but seems to be sorted by putting a extra bit of foam around rear upright pole/foam strip.
The site we are on (Derbyshire, near Ashbourne)is only 45 mins away,so we have checked daily, some don`t use awnings as it can be quite windy onsite anyway,so we were a little anxious!to say the least, but it has taken some of the worst weather in the first few days, and coped very well.
It is a lovely awning, light and spacious, almost as good as a full size awning, and certainly lighter/brighter.
For saying it was the first time we had put the awning up,it was very easy/quick.admittedly we have been campers/caravanners,for quite a few years, but the instruction book that came with the awning was very clear and simple,so even people new to camping/caravanning
should be ok.

You shouldn't have to waterproof a new awning? If the awning is nylon it should be ready to use out of the bag.
Bear in mind that the average nylon tent/awning has a life span of around six months.

We are using our Kampa 390 for its 2nd year now. we used it for around 50 nights away last year and have used it for 15 nights away so far this year. We use it on every trip. You do occasionally get a drip or two from a seam during heavy rain but nothing to get excited about. We had a Sunncamp 390 followed by Towsures own version before purchasing the Kampa which, in our opinion, is far superior.
We have a kampa rally pro and it has just withstood gale force winds (amber weather warning) on the north Devon coast. It did leak a bit but in the circumstances we forgave it that. Dh used ground anchors and did not get much sleep due to repegging. But all poles were fine.
