We are on a seasonal pitch in North Yorkshire and got the dreaded call today to say the site was flooding.
when we got to the site it was chaos people trying to pack up etc, our awning was already flooded by at least a foot of water so everything in there was floating around!
Cleared up what we could and thrown away what was ruined, can not get the awaning down due to the flood water all around so going back tomorrow to try an get it down so the site can move the caravan off the pitch with a tractor.
Were not near a river and the warden who has been there 10 years has never known anything like it before it was all after the storm which hit the area this afternoon
We feel so disappointed after our bad start last year with our first caravan been written off in an RTA on out 1st trip, we finally thought we had got sorted with our 2nd caravan on a lovely site an now this happens!! kids are so upset
Sorry to hear of your bad luck our van is in north Yorks near a river on flood warning just looked on environment agency and it is right where van is it is normaly high enough to avoid floods fingers crossed
I take it was one hell of a storm
sorry to read this, have just watch clips on bbc news of the wales flooding and I feel like I want to cry for all the people on the caravan sites. I know people's homes have been affected as well but when your holiday "home" goes as well it must be horrible.
There was a right down pouring yesterday, we were visiting relatives in Easingwold and it was torrential rain, hail etc, back roads flooded in places to about half afoot. Got back to Durham and my neighbours we cutting the grass no rain at all
So sorry Rob, an RTa and now this! I'm feeling it for you and yours. All I can say (and it's cold comfort, I know) is that your not the only one. Hopefully it just the awning, and your lovely van won't have suffered at all.
So sorry to hear of all your troubles and I hope you get sorted soon.
We're on a seasonal in North Yorkshire and haven't been able to get down this week at all but this time last year we almost lost the awning in the high winds. I must admit it would have been catastrophic if it wasn't for the fantastic site owner (Andrew) who worked non stop to lash down all the awnings (there are 89 seasonal vans on the site). Would you please let us know which site you're on?
Went back to the Caravan this morning as we did all we could last night, the water levels had dropped slightly and luckily there was no further down pour in the night to the extent of what happened yesterday afternoon. we spoke to people who were on site and they said it was unbelieveable how dark it went, first thunder then halestones like marbles then just over an hour of the heaviest rain you have ever seen, they just watched the water rise so quickly
The water did not reach the caravan floor but was very close as the tide mark is half way up the wheel, the motor mover may have some damage but going to try this out next weekend. we think we have suffered but our thoughts go out to all those in Wales ,I know how we feel so they must be devasted to loose the caravan aswell
Spent today taking down the awning and sorting the wet things out, awning has come home with us so we can dry it out and give it a clean.
The caravan was towed out with a tractor and moved to a dryer pitch at the other side of the site.
The site managers have been great as always helping out an making sure everything is ok
Marilyn - We are on Goosewood near Sutton on the Forest
Pleased to hear things are not as bad as they could have been. I think all our thoughts are in Wales at the moment.
We are on Highfield Farm near Catterick and as the name suggests we are quite high up. Our main problem is wind.
It's just been on the North East weather forecast that there is no sign of any summer on the horizon so we'll just have to make the best of what we've got and keep fingers crossed for a late summer.
Just want to say so sorry to hear of all your troubles ,must be heartbreaking ,We are on a seasonal site and we have such a wonderful lot of people on there ,Warden owners and campers ,we cant get down all the time as my husband works and last week here was awful .the wind nearly took our awning away ,the warden rang us and said he had done his best with it ,,we went down next day and our awning was tied down with ropes and bungies etc ,every one had been trying to keep it down ,we knew we found a perfect site for us as every one is so friendly and cant do enough for you, just to add we are all overe 55 on site no children but we do have our grandchildren now and again ,they are made very welcome by everyone
