As already said, buy a cheap damp meter first and make sure it's dry. I looked at many vans around this age in the last couple of months for a friend and found damp in every one

If no damp found, it's worth going for...

The problem with cheap damp meters is that they often over read. We had this prob. after our last 'van was repaired by a dealer. Our cheap meter said it was still damp (90%). The repairers Protimeter said 5% and his was right! V. embarrasing

I've found mine to be pretty accurate. Didn't hear a peep out of it when checking a 2003 Compass corona last week so the deal was done!
It's a draper costing around £15 - had it since buying my first van 5 yrs a go. It was invaluable as it tested positive for all but the van I finally bought. Sold that one 2 years a go when it was professionally declared bone dry by a dealer.
Unfortunately I genuinely think there is damp in most vans of this age, enough that will sooner or later cause issues.
Glad you found a good one though jonboy, hope all goes well!
