Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that nearly every couple on campsites that are erecting an awning appear to be in the latter stages of a failing marriage ?, we've only been at this game for about seven years but it seems to be the one consistent thing on every site we visit, i find it quite comical to watch someone else having a good old stressed out ding dong after my wife and i have put ours up and we've both calmed down and made up again.
My prefered method of entertainment most certainly. sitting outside with a beer watching stressed cpls putting up an awning.Makes me laugh. better than a Tv comedy!

Perhaps give them a hand if they are struggling instead of taking the p**s.....yes it is mainly just you.
bit tough it ain't just him if you talk to folk they tend to be of the same opinion it is a common feature of caravanning harmless fun not michael extraction
Used to happen to us every time the awning went up we would fall out...its all part of caravaning and a subject to talk about down the pub...cheer up Tentz.
We always offer to help and thankfully we've also received offers of help which has been a godsend when we have turned up in blistering heat in France.
Maybe I have a different SOH as I don't find it comical?
------------- Are you sure you've read the instructions?
The secret is to always look as though you know what you're doing even when the awning is threaded through the awning rail and it's inside out. I find it funny but will offer a hand if someone's stuck

HEAR HEAR! Nothing worse than things going wrong at the start of the holiday, how nice it would be for someone to wander over and ask you if you need any help.
I do, and make friends for the week every time..

I think everyone looks at new arrivals and check out how they set up. Some will do it from inside their vans, some sat outside. Some may even offer help !! We are indeed a diverse lot when on site.....just accept it !!!
PS. If people are in difficulty I always offer to help, sometimes offer is accepted, but always this breaks the ice and you get chatting to new neighbours.
usually go and help others, its only when we put ours up the sparks fly.lol.one young chap had assembled his full awning with all the front poles on the outside i had to take it all down and start again.still not sure how he did it.i also had to provide pegs and guy ropes as they had none.he replaced the pegs and ropes with new ones and a bottle of wine.that was nice.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Young couple, A bit wet, sat them in our van till the rain stopped with a cup of tea. Then off they went, first time camping, didnt have any pegs or a hammer. I gave them pegs and a hammer, tokk them an hour, still hadn't got it right, so, I done my best to help and at last it was up. They went out in the morning and later that day came in to see us with 2 bottles of wine, very thankfull.
we got an awning thrown in with our last new to us caravan and we only ever put the awning up with our old van once..never again..my god was it stressful..first time caravanning, first time awning erecting - no instructions etc We bought a new one with our new caravan, useless instructions, but so easy to erect, up in 20 minutes with no hassle or arguments.

Seems like I've had a sense of humour transplant too as I don't find it funny either. It's a pity some people have nothing better to amuse their tiny minds than laugh at other people struggling - I think it's rather childish tbh. Surely it would be better to offer to help - after all, one day it could be you struggling with something and you wouldn't like to be laughed at.
I'm completely on my own so any awning, tent or whatever has to be put up alone - fortunately I know what I'm doing and just get on with it, I don't give a stuff if people are watching me or not but if I ever noticed anyone openly laughing at me for any reason I'd say something so scathing they'd be looking for the nearest stone to crawl under!
