We have a Thetford C250 cassette toilet in our 2009 Lunar Clubman. I have found that fluids can leak from the bottom of the bowl, over the cassette and into the compartment below it. Not sure if this happens when I'm removing it to empty it or during use.
I have taken the van back to Lowdhams of Nottingham where we bought it 7 weeks ago and they have tested it and found no problem. However, they did lubricate the seal. The test they carried out was to fill the bowl with water and check to see if any leaked. We went away for a couple of days earlier this week and the same problem appeared. When I called them to ask for help they used the 'we'll look into it and call you back in an hour excuse' and have never bothered!!! So much for our Gold Level Warranty!
I called Thetford. A nice young man said that it was an unusual problem and to fill the bowl with water and see if any air bubbles rose to the surface from the seal. No further help or advice was offered!
No air bubbles surfaced and I cannot, using their test, get the problem to show but know that next time I am onsite I will be faced with donning the rubber gloves and disinfecting the cassette compartment.
I must emphasise that the toilet is being used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and we have many previous versions of Thetford cassettes before with no problems.
So, I have had 2 tries with those that should know, can anyone on the forum (those that usually DO know) offer any suggestions as to what it might be?
think you are taking it out with a small amount of water left inside toilet after you have closed the blade(or put there after the blade is shut) make sure all water has gone before taking out the cassette.i did it one time.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
I would tend to agree with Michael on this one.
If you close the blade too soon after flushing you can get a fair bit of sitting flush water in there that would drop into the compartment as soon as you remove the cassette.
If the above do not cure the problem I would be inclined to fit a new seal. It is fairly easy and only takes a few minutes. Make sure you lube the seal before using it but I think the fitting instructions tell you that anyway. It is worthwhile spraying a thin coat of seal lube on to the seal a few times a year just to keep it supple.

When you take the cassette part of the out there is a yellow knob turn anti clockwise to open the blade then clockwise to close it, that should stop any leaks if your seal is intact
The same thing is happening to me I am doing the same thing as I did with my last van but this one is full of water under the cassette is it just the seals that want to be renewed did you get this fixed
As Ancient Uncle posted, good chance original contributors are no longer around after all these years, and fresh post would get more attention.
But as you are here, you need to ascertain whether the leak is from the bowl/waste tank interface OR from the flush tank/pump!
You've not filled in the caravan details in your profile, OR stated toilet model in your post, so we're at a slight disadvantage in being very specific with known faults and/or potential issues with your specific set up.
By implication, it may suggest this is a recently acquired van! If so it's also possible that damage due to freezing needs to be considered as we are still in the winter months, unemptied flush tanks/hoses can split if allowed to freeze, or hoses become dislodged!
More info needed before we can really offer much more specific advice than that in old posts.
If you tap on a poster’s name, it comes up with their previous forum posts. The OP Keith2375 has posted this year. Let’s hope he ticked the box 11 years ago to be alerted to replies to this thread.
Referring to above seal problem. When ever we come back from a break I always empty our toilet cassette and leave it out until next trip away. This allows the seal to recover and remain good. Never had a problem in all my years of caravanning.
It may not be a problem with the toilet as the service door seal may have perished letting rain water in which needs replacing. The way to check this is to remove the waste tank then clean out the toilet compartment inside with a dry cloth. Fully close the service door and with a water hose gently spray around the locker door for a few minutes then open the door and have a look inside. If there is any evidence of water ingress then you have detected the fault which at least then it rules it out the root cause of the problem if the compartment is still bone dry.

I think you’ve previously posted the website for getting replacement door seals? (Apologies if it wasn’t you.)

No, it wasn't me, not on this thread anyway although I have posted previously on another thread on this topic regarding the service door seal but that's been a long time ago.
