HI

We bought a porch awning for our old swift corniche last year.

When we tried to pitch it we struggled. I cant remember the make (its in the caravan now) but its a small one with padded uprights which go against the caravan.

We really struggled with the padded uprights. Is it because our old caravan has the strip of metal about a quater way down the wall and the upright wont go flush.

We gave up on the awning eventually and managed without but if we are taking our new son with us ( see other post) we will need to try it again.

What have we done wrong? It seemed to be too tight to get it to pitch correctly.

Your caravan may be too low for the specific porch awning.  Also porch awnings are very suceptable to unlevel ground.

A full awning can cope with slopes & lower caravans better than a porch awning.

We have the Outdoor Revolution Porch Awning that has the padded edging.

Because it fits to out FC, we also have the Lip Problem where the canvas top joins the metal body.

We use support poles at the back of the padded bit to hold the pads against the body, but even these do not seal the pads all the way down and so I have stitched 50mm wide Velcro to the pads and have stuck the opposite to the vans sides so that now I have a perfect seal between the van and the awning.

Porch awn 2

I also stitched the velcro to the awning skirt, further sealing it all the way to the ground.
