Hi could any one tell me how I can replace the red light on top of my Thetford Toilet in my caravan, I have looked in the book but it does not say. thank you
Why do you need to replace it, do you think it's gone or know that it has? To be honest, it's rare for them to fail and any 'fault' you have might be either the float jammed in the cassette or the reed switch in the cassette compartment (assuming of course you've checked/changed the float indicator batteries too).
You also don't mention which model Thetford, but the information on replacing the lamp for the C200 range can be found on this document.
If you empty the cassete and shake it, and there is something rattling inside then its the float thats came dislodged. There could also be loo paper stuck to it causing it not to rise..Myself and other people dont bother with it as its hard to fix back and just look down the loo to check the level.
when my light failed it was the battery box holder/container 2 batteries.(inside the toilet compartment that holds the cassette).the contacts inside had become containated with a rusty deposit.therefore the batteries were not making contact as they should.take it out and clean the contacts with a small screwdriver and spray with WD40.replace the batteries with new ones.fill cassette with water to see if it works.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
To test the reed switch hold a magnet in front of it and see if the light comes on. I have had 2 reed switches fail in about a year, caused by corrosion.
