Hi DAVE 11 I am surprised that caravan manufacturers or some of the magazines haven't done any towing tests with cameras and vibration monitores on board it would be a very interesting exercise with all the telemetry equipment available I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to set up
I haven't got any answers to frequent checks on wheel tightness do they come loose more often on a caravan or is it a case of parahnoia   I'm not sure

Hi Phil 76, not sure what the stats are in that , but think how many cars on the road against caravans, even if a wheel coming off on a caracan was only a rare occurrence , it should mean that cars wheels would keep coming off all the time with the amount of cars and the mileages they cover. How often do we hear of wheels coming off cars?

What some people fail to realise is that a severe out of balance tyre can cause destruction throughout the interior and exterior parts of a caravan. When you apply a jack hammer to concrete the vibration breaks up the concrete into fragments so having an unbalanced tyre can do exactly the same process by constant vibration. If concrete can be broken up so easily then think what effect the vibration will have on a timber construction fitted toegether with small screws etc. People can constantly debate this issue for and against but hey! who cares, I have mine balanced so you either take the advice or ignore it, the choice is yours at the end of the day.

I think the analogy is a little over the top yes out of balance wheels could cause things to work loose but if was as severe as a jack hammer there would be bits of caravan all over the roads   Dave11 has made some very good points and I do agree with him but to prove the point is very difficult Do all vans with unbalanced wheels fall to bits Do all vans with balanced wheels suffer no problems at all I think the truth is down the middle somewhere and is a mixture of conditions unbalanced wheels / poor construction / poor maintenance / bad roads    I wish I knew the answer

I would love for one of the clubs to take up the baton and do exhaustive testing with balance and out of balance wheels on the all surface test tracks they used by caravan manufactuers. If they did this on both single and twin axles at varying speeds and put test equipment in the caravan we should have the answer.

If as some of us believe this could be one of the causes of internal / external / damage to caravan and one of the possible reasons wheels come off caravans, the club(s) could lobby the manufacturers to do something about it with some clout behind them with their stats.

This could hep prove it one way or another, thinking as I write this post, I am going to E mail both the CC and CC&C clubs to see if they would be prepared to do this on behlaf of all caravanners!

I have not read all the posts here but if not mentioned above I suggest checking the tryes for mis-shape.  They sit in one position for long periods and can easily have bulges.  Should show on eneven tyre wear.
