We have just got today our 2 berth Lunar Ariva. Problems for me is that if I turn over in the night and fall on the floor I have to get an ambulance to get me up.Like I had to when I fell backwards in my wheelchair.
At home I have on my bed a bedstick that fits under the mattress & up the side, so giving my help pulling me up ,and steadying me when I stand up. With that if I turn over it stops me falling out.
I need room to get out on my own so cannot use the bed as double, do not want to wake Bob up if I need the loo, I can manage, providing I do not fall out of the bed. It is narrower than the fc we had. I sleep about 95% on my left side. it's the time when I turn onto my back or try to turn right over, just for minutes for a break from always sleeping the same way. Get a bit sore at times, so needs just a little while for a break.
The bed is slatted underneath so will not take a steel bedstick under it. A board across the middle of the two has been suggested but I have to have access out of bed.
Anyone got any good suggestions so I do not fall onto the floor.
Wish I could think of something to help, but I couldn't stand seeing your blue sad face. I'm sure someone will come along with a solution for you soon :)

The road can be tough and rough, but what you put in you get back 10 x more.
That blue face was me on the stoney road on Polstead site. " big umbrellas over me, a fleece over my lower legs & tootsies, while the rain poured down. Still they looked after me and they lost the use of their brollies as I had them.

I have a similar problem being disabled myself, and my OH has made me a wooden extention which takes my single bed to being 2ft 9ins wide, and I bought a replacement foam seat pad on line that fits the base exactly, and is a bit thicker than the original for added comfort and support.
Now this would not work for anyone who needed to use both front benches as seating during the day as the modification has made my bed too wide to be used as a standard seat and backrest, and an extra problem that you would have would be in the narrowness or the Ariva compared to most other caravans would leave you with very little legroom between the benches.
You could try putting a pillow under the mattress along the front edge so that your naturally tilted backwards towards the wall of the caravan, and less lightly to fall out of bed, but getting out of bed can then be more difficult as you have to climb over the hump created by the pillow.
When I went to sleep onboard a friends boat, and had a similar problem with the bunk width, I used to take a sturdy little folding stepstool with two wide treads that i used as a bedside table, a top grab handle, and put that at the side of my bed to pull up on and give me the nudge to keep inbed during the night

Bob will not be needing any change it will be only for me. It was geting our heads round a starting point as so much else has been happening since we got home, well before we go home that this really is the first chance we have had of putting all the attention onto what is needed.
The only other thought which came in bed last night when one should be sleeping (big joke). Was to put a thinner piece of ply wood under the mattress and a bit stronger piece that comes up the front as a kind of guard. Like the bedstick used at home but a lot smaller as I rarely move all night so thought if I touched something more solid I would push myself back on. Something like finding myself up against a small wall. Trying to explain it is not my best forte, I get people mixed up yet I have it in my head I can picture it. Just have to be careful of the slats, hence the lighter wood underneath just to hold the side bit there. it can always be put at the back of me when I sit in the daytime.
But this has given us a starting point, which is what we were stumped on. The brains for both of us were fogged up I think as this was not what we anticipated when we got the fc it was to keep not change. All best laid plans etc.

I wonder if you have tried the Voluntary Association for Surrey Disabled or Social Services. Each looks at the needs of the disabled and devises ways around individuals challenges. Perhaps they could come up with some device

Phil I have never even heard of them. But they may have others whose needs are the same as there are a loy of disabled people whose lives do not come to a dead stop contrary to what some people think especially if you also live in sheltered housing. We know the people here seem to think we are abit off our rocker to go camping and not hotels. Remarks made lets us know they have no idea of the freedom you have and feel when you just out of the concrete jungle into the camping world whatever your unit is.
