Hi all

on a recent trip to norfolk in are 2008 elddis caravan i decided to do a quick clean on the out side of the van, i noticed that the top left hand corner on the center window was missing, on our return i contacted the insurance company which is with the caravan club and fill out a claim form. i had a assesser come to look and take some pictures.

today i recived a letter telling me that they willl not be replacing the window because it is a manufacture fault by poltplastics, i did have the window peplaced in 2009 due to a fault but they are saying its a all too comman fault with this type of hing bar and they have made the caravan club aware, and is a on-going investigations.

the assesser have said we consider it a likely possibility that the damage may not have exist as a result of an insured event.

seems a very easy get out  to me the piece is missing so that cannot be looked at for any impact, as anyone eles herd of this promblem only i cannot find any info.

any help with this would be a great help, so getting what i thought was a good policy is not the case you only find out how good they are when you claim.

thanks

We discovered a piece missing from our heiki rooflight.  We didn't know when it happened but we assume it happened in january during severe storms in this area casing lots of damage to roofs etc, We contacted our insurance & they told us to get a Quote. I was shocked to find it was over £600 to replace the perspex dome only but I sent the quote along with a picture of the damage & recieved  a letter to take it to get repaired & they contacted the dealers to give them the go ahead no fuss.

Greetings Zara,

I can understand your frustration.

Could I suggest that, if you are a member of the Caravan Club, you write to them and ask their opinion as to what you have been told by the assessor. Also, ask them to confirm what the assessor has told you ie, that they (the CC) have been told of this 'fault' and ask them what they have found out.

You could also ask the manufacturers what they know about this apparent anomoly where chunks of their windows fall off without warning ?

If you find from your enquiries that the assessor in any way is talking bo!!ocks then ring up the Financial Ombudsman. Get him involved. I've never seen a 'van with corners of the windows missing. It may be that it has happened in the past to a limited run of windows but that is no excuse to use it for every circumstance.

Regards

thanks , i have been in touch with the caravan club they are taking the assersors word for this. they said to write a complant to the caravan club.

so i will complain and send the info to them , then i will contact the Financial Ombudsman. the caravan club have said that this is a new fault with the polyplastic windows and therefore a manufacture fault, although the assersor did say in his report that he had a case in 2004 ?.

if it is a case of the hing expanding in the heat then why have all the other front windows not gone the same way.
