We are at that stage where we are considering buying a new (or nearly new) caravan but cannot make our mind up which layout we prefer. On our travels we like to stop off at as many dealers we can so we can take our time and check out all the makes and layouts.
Popped into a dealers near Whitstable last week and all the caravans were locked. Maybe understandable as it was right in the middle of town. Which other dealers lock their vans? We're passing Cranham Caravans at the weekend. Are they all locked?
Primarily interested in the South East - although we are off to Yorkshire and the NE soon so that would be useful as well.
South east caravans ( whitstable ) used to keep their vans open, but sadly as David told me that they have to lock them now, because things were going missing, knobs off cookers, chopping boards even arm cushions, sad day when you can't trust isn't it , so know you have to ask for the keys.

Adopt a rescue, rescue dogs make great pets, don't support puppy farms.
The road can be tough and rough, but what you put in you get back 10 x more.
R&b caravans ( Herne) don't lock theirs, but they only have a very few small selection of vans, and their office is right in with the vans so I think they can have a better view of who goes in and out.

Canterbury Caravans always have a good selection (on Sturry Road heading out of Canterbury towards Heresden). They always have a lot of second hand accessories too. Good place to look.
Failing that there is Milestone Caravans in Hawkinge or Lee Davey on the A20 between Ashford & Maidstone.
Probably a good idea to buy locally in case of post delivery issues and ongoing aftersales assistance. We bought our van in a private sale near where we live but cannot fault CC when we went there for a service & a motor mover.
sad sign of our times ,mind you saying that in my local dealers you just go and ask for the keys ,and they leave you alone in it .so would be easy to take parts if you wanted to .weird old world init
Yes - it is sad sign of our times. I know we can ask for keys but at the moment we just like popping from one caravan to another. And we like to be left alone (!!).
Thanks for the info re Cranham. Not the first time I have heard those sort of comments.
Any info on Chichester Caravans at Redhill? Last went there about 5 years ago and they were all locked.
i would be surprised if any dealer left any caravans unlocked, i would not leave a single one unlocked at any time. sad but i have seen lots of vans with bits missing in the past.
I can definately understand dealers locking their caravans. However I visited Wandahome at South Cave a few weeks ago and their caravans were open. A staff member showed me around a few caravans with the layout I thought I was interested in and then left me to have a wander on my own, which I though was very good.

Hi Andyorp as stated in earlier post Catterick Caravans (DL10 7JB)& nexd door Ropers Caravans(DL10 7SL) allow access to all caravans also Kenmore Caravans at Mirfield (WF14 9DA) do the same good luck with the hunt
I think there will be few open that customers have look in at Wandahome at South Cave we brought our present van from there and we had to ask for the keys on our van .
I cannot help but think that this thread carries a bit of a security issue to those companies who are trustworthy enough to leave their caravan stock unlocked, it is afterall a directory to the would be 'free shopper' of where to go if you want a particular caravan part, and although I suspect that most of our members are honest trustworthy people, this website is in the public domain and accessable to ANYONE whos into caravans and camping.
My local dealers, Don Amott and Robinsons both keep their caravans locked, the local Hobby dealer goes one step further and keeps his stock in a locked compound, if you want to view his caravans you enter via the office and he escorts you around and demonstrates the caravans features.
