The left over poles are for holding up the front bay if you want to have the front open on hot days. Just a few tips.........Don't both buying the optional poles that are used to hold the pads at the rear up against the side of the caravan. They don't really add anything other than weight to your car when you take them. Ours is the three bay version and no matter how it goes up the front end will always be over the lounge window. As that is proud of the van the upright poles cannot hold the back pad to the van anyway!!! Don't bother with the optional roof poles either. We found that once they are in place water collects on the roof between your awning rail and the position of that roof pole. This can cause a tension on your awning rail on a stormy night which you just don't want. Then you need to push the roof up regularly to drai nthe water off!! The awning looks fine without them and water runs off so much easier. That's even more weight you don't need to carry. In fact if you really want to weigh your car down with such excess worthless weight I can let you have the poles!!!! Instructions take some fathoming but once you have put it up all becomes very clear and the end result is worth the effort. Nice attractive awnings. Don't forget to spray some sealant around all of the seams once you have it up...before it rains. Oh and give the storm straps one turn before you peg them down otherwise they vibrate very LOUDLY all night!!! Enjoy Phil
