Just bought a new caravan with a side fixed bed. Bed is really comfortable but has anyone any good ideas on how to get the fitted sheet over the far end of the mattress. Got there in the end by kneeling on bed and trying to pull up the corners but the mattress is so firm and a very tight fit that it was almost impossible. Has anyone found a better way.?
No!! I kneel on bed and just push over corners as far as I can . Then I lift the mattress with the help of the struts that lift the base, and tuck it under along the side by the bathroom and the bottom end!!! Does that make any sense?!!! I know I have to have a shower afterwards - I get very hot and sweaty!!!
We were having trouble with the fitted sheet involving a lot of cussing from Mrs SF.
We also found that it was slipping off during the night because of the cut off section and not being able to get the sheet taught on the mattress.
I am too tight to cough up for custom made sheets so after a fair bit of trial and error we now find it easier to pull the mattress up off the frame to fit the sheet and use one of these on each corner.
A nylon cord is then fed throgh each cling on, pulled tight and tied. The sheet stays neat and in place now throughout the night.
I used to get annoyed trying to fit a sheet to the double bed in my caravan and then read someone's post about using a spare thin quilt in a cover on the base instead of a fitted sheet.
The quilt inside is thick enough to keep the quilt cover in place and is the perfect size to just be able to lay over the top of the bed. It also gives you a really nice extra padded layer on the upturned seat covers (and end of season or if you spill anything on it you can wash the quilt easier than cleaning the matress).
If its really hot I can use the thicker quilt as the base and the thin on top.
I know you say you have a fitted bed but may be worth giving a try :-)
I bought a stretchy fitted sheet, elasticated all the way round, I kneel on the matress put on one corner at a time, because it's stretchy it sort of finds it's own way around the matress, and it fits the cut off well too and doesn't move.

I agree with jennyfernn, get the other half to do it, I am too new to all this, so can't really be of much help at the moment, but does it have to be a fitted sheet? will not a flat sheet be better? Or am I missing something? Told you I was new to this! lol :)
It is the biggest bugbear of having a fixed bed IMHO ... we have Raskelf custom made bottom sheets which are a very tight fit, making the job doubly hard. Once in place though they don't move.

Thanks for all the comments. I'm glad I'm not the only one to struggle I thought I was missing something but obviously not. We were so looking forward to a nice comfy bed it didn't cross my mind it would be difficult to make. It will probably get easier the more I do it.
Friends of ours have a fixed bed, putting a sheet on was turning them grey before their time until someone suggested getting a king size sheet. slipped over easily at the far side next to the wall then tucked in excess on the near side.

We have found that the easiest way to make a fixed bed is for my wife to do the part next to the walk way and I do the side against the wall through the open window .. Much easier than crawling over the bed except I guess if it is raining or snowing (no snow and not much rain where I am)
