I noticed this as well and found a perfect fix.

After each holiday or weekend away, when I get back I block the two waste outlets, then pour a bucket of warm water with Puriclean in it down both sinks until the water  just starts to appear in the shower tray. After hour or two release the plugs and rinse through with a bucket of warm water. Works great, no smells and keeps all the pipes clean as well
