Hi,

hopefully the linked pics work, please let me know if they dont.

basically, I ordered turf from www.onlineturf.co.uk this week, and when the buggers delivered it, the entire pallet of turf, certainly greater than a ton toppled over from the back of the lorry, and fell right on my caravan at front, A frame area. needles to say, the turf went back and it wasn't even great quality anyway..totally gutted :-(

the attached pics show pretty much most of the turf removed, but should give an idea what happned. it was completely the delivery mans fault, and intitally it looked like there was no damage, but im not so sure. you can clearly see a miss alignment at the front of the van. the neighbours said the whole van shook violently , which im not surpised about since the shock load of a pallet of turf must h ave been huge.

ive told the turf company that im not prepared to make the call whether its damaged or not, as ther could be structural damage that isnt visible externally or to an untrained eye.

Anyone got any thoughts, tips advice etc on how i proceed?

Definately moved it, look at the locker, looks like the whole front has been pushed over to the left of the pic. I'd get a letter in to the turf people stating that you hold them responsible and will be taking the van in for a inspection, the report will be forwarded to them with a repair quote for them to settle or pass onto their insurance as they should have insurance for this type of damage.

You would probably be better getting a report from a bailey dealer, they should have the facility to check the chassis measurements etc and I would think it'd have to be repaired by a approved bodyshop\workshop if the insurance get involved. Was the driver employed by the turf supplier ?

Get it uploaded to a Bailey dealer. They will have to pay. Do NOT tow it yourself to the dealer otherwise you will give them a get out clause.

OUCH! Letter of reserve in the first instance to vehicle owner holding them responsible for any damage and costs incurred ie recovery to dealer, engineer's report, cancelled trips away etc, etc. I'd be inclined to use Bailey dealer. Copy of letter to your insurance company and keep a record of any phone calls with time and to whom you spoke. You may find that your insurance will sort it all for you thus saving you from all the negotiating. I think , with a bit of luck, it may have only shifted the front fairing (A frame cover) over a little, hope so anyway but the engineer's appraisal is paramount. Wish you luck and hope you're soon back on the road.....Mick

Greetings,

And whilst I think about it, (and it comes to a claim) in addition to your immediate losses, don't forget the losses incurred in making a claim, loss of No Claims discount etc.
Additional expense in Insuring the caravan next year.

You can see things are out of alignment on the photo, look at the body gaps around the A frame cowling and the front locker, rather than being even they're both well out of line, so something has moved.

Looks O.K. to me. The pallet hit the offside of the front so the gap would be that side not the other. I bet it was like that from new and you have never noticed it before.

Be interested to see what they say can't see from the photo if it is twisted but I would certainly get it checked, though I suspect theres no real damage. I doubt the WHOLE front has been pushed to the side.

If you look at used Baileys of this style in the dealers those gaps are common.

Ours is a Bailey like yours, it was like that when it came back from having a new front, (the front had been put on properly but the covering on the A frame hadn't.)

Hubby did it himself to save taking it all the way back. I am sure it was just a case of adjusting the spacing on the sides of the plastic covering on the A frame.

Not suggesting you should as it's turf company's fault but just saying don't panic............yet.
