The not born until I was 50 remark made me giggle.
I also have 3 children who have been brought up to respect other people and their property.
I also had to endure frisbees hitting my caravan and a game of cricket played with a real cricket ball beside my pitch.
It seems to me as if a lot of parents think caravanning and camping is a license to let their offspring do as they please without supervision or guidance.
As I will be 50 next year I suppose I had better get used to bad behaviour or give up my caravan.

I've got another 6 years before I become Victor Meldrew . Though I heard that 50 is the new 40?

I don't think bad parenting is confined to caravan sites, it will be the same at most hotels, Centre Parcs, villa complexes, et al. You could still get struck by a ball whilst reading a book by the pool while the parents are making the most of the all inclusive vodka shots in the bar!

And banning cycling won't stop a ball or frisbee hitting your van. If fact kids tend to become more unruly when bored, so take away their bikes....

Kids will be kids and MOST will listen if you ask them nicely to point their ball/frisbee/shuttlecock/bike the other way.

We've only had our caravan for a year having had a FC, so we are what another poster described as 'newbies' we didn't buy it to annoy 'established' vanners, and the purchase was not influenced by the 'current climate' as suggested by the same poster, if I add up what we have spent getting it right we could spend a long time abroad.

Relax and remember your on holiday.

The difference between English children on campsites and French children on campsites is the reason why we spend our camping time on the continent.

Children will be whatever their parents have taught them to be.

Can you imagine what a campsite would be like for children if their bikes and balls and games where taken away? Isnt caravanning and camping where childhood fun and memories are made. Im not saying there are not naughty kids on site, I've seen a few, and naughty parents, I've had a run in with the odd one, but I truly believe that they are a minority compared to the amount there are on site, If given the boundaries and told the rules most behave well. You can't stop all accidents, sometimes they are just that accidents.
My son is 18 now so obviously he no longer comes, but he used to ride his bike and make friends always considerate to others. I now go sometimes with my sister and her little boy, he loves riding his bike on site, ok he's 4 so one of us goes with him, but when he's older I want him to enjoy riding his bike like my son did and making new friends, it would be such a shame if it were banned, as I said before that a small few ruin it for all the other conscientious campers.

I'm really shocked now how divided camping is now, ive noiced it more and more on here, there's an awful lot of discrimination , something I don't recall years back, everyone seems so cross and angry , I know we are not all the same ,but no one seems to have tolerance anymore.

When my property is being damaged, I am afraid I have zero tolerance.
I have been on sites in France where international pitched battles between drunken teenagers is the norm come nightfall so, it is not just this country that suffers from people who are not fit to breed.

We've been fortunate so far, not met any angry grumpies on sites we have visited and not had any bother from other peoples children. Everyone we've encountered so far has been nice and friendly, happy to chat etc. This is one of the things we love about touring.

I agree with Murano, wouldn't be much fun if the kids couldn't go out on their bikes and meet new friends etc.

You shouldn't be surprised to find kids out playing when you visit a family campsite. Club or commercial, UK or continental.

Yes, unfortunatly, I guess some kids do not have any boundaries and have feckless parents, but you dont need to go camping to encounter that. Would be a real shame if draconian rules are introduced just because a few cant behave. Probably the existing rules just need enforcing a bit - that's all?

Think the moderators should declare the forum a moan free zone?

But everything has to have new blood, or things would die out, wernt we all new once.
As far as I was aware, I thought anyone could go caravanning? I didnt think it was just for a select group.

Welcome Audicab26.   We don't moan all the time and newbies are more than welcome.   We were all newbies once (and children too).

As ever, it's the actions of a few spoiling things for the majority.

I have 2 daughters, who have taken bikes on a few occasions to sites when they were younger as it does provide a safer environment to ride them than on the proper roads.  A gentle cycle around the site is one thing, tearing up the place on bikes and scooters another.

The parents of these kids don't care what they do, as long as they can sit outside with their beer/wine and their property isn't damaged.   If you have the audacity to complain, you are labelled a grumpy old moaner and are met with abuse from the kids and the parents.

Sorry to say, I think the bike ban is probably for the best and lots of other sites will probably be following suit, rather than leaving themselves open to complaint or being sued.

I agree with patches, sadly a small few ruin it for so many, I do hope they don't ban it all over though, it would be such a shame for those that know the rules.

Tricky one to call, but I hope there isn't a widespread ban, that would be a shame.

The answer I guess is that site owners should deal with the minority who cause problems more robustly so the rest of us can enjoy the site and it's facilities.
