Can anyone tell me the best route to tow a caravan from the Midlands to Cardigan Bay in Wales. I,ve considered avoiding the M50 and A40 due to the roadworks and want to know what the A44 is like for towing especially how hilly / narrow the road is.
The A44 is fine, with very few hills at all after Kington.
Worcester to Bromyard is a bit winding.
Bromyard to Leominster is OK.
Leominster to Kington is a bit narrow through Pembridge.
Kington to Rhayader has a few slight hills and bends but nothing at all severe.
Rhayader to Llangurig is excellent, other than the junction in Rhayader that can be a bit awkward if busy.
Llangurig to Aberystwyth is slightly hilly and a bit narrow through Ponterwyd, but nothing that is daunting.
Aberystwyth south to New Quay has got a couple of skightly narrow villages, but again no problems.
Narrowest section is in to the C & CC Camp Site!!
We regularly do here to Worcester without the van in just less than 2 hours, and about 30 minutes longer with the van behind.
The A44 is the main route between the South Midlands and soouthern Powys so is used by lots of lorries; they never seem to have any problems.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
