Hi

Noticed when coming home from a recent trip that when my lights are on on my tow car the indicators on the van are on permanently but my running lights are not. When I have no lights on the indicators work as normal. I have a new Navara with Nissan fitted tow bar and a seperate panel on my dash that shows the indicators working on the van which stops once my car lights are on. I have had the towbar electrics checked and all seem ok.

Could it be as simple as a fault on the 7 pin plug ? I have only had the van two months and its the first time Ive towed it with the lights on. Its a Rallye Compass 634.

Cheers

Paul

I suspect you have an earth fault on the van. Possibly wires loose or damp in the balck plug.

Is the cable damaged-they can rub on the ground and chaff?

The car must be ok as it has been checked-need to check the van wiring now.

Not noticed any damage but if I push the black plug in all the way the indicators dont work so I have to ease it out a couple of millameters then all seems fine.

That suggests the problem is the 7pin plug, bad earth/water/corrosion as stated. For what little it costs you might as well buy a new 7 pin plug. Remove the old one & strip the wires back until you have clean wiring & fit new plug. For wiring diagram google '12n wiring'.

Just picked the Tow car up from the dealer.

I fitted a new 7 pin plug on the van as suggested checked all the connections still the same problem. Took the car back in and asked them to check the electrics again and low and behold water ingress in the socket was causing the problem. The dealer has replaced the electrics and socket and sited the new one further back under the rear of the car to stop water ingress.

Hopefully this will resolve the problem !

Change the plug on the caravan and unless it's new change the socket on the car.
