An increase (reasonable) in electricity charge (or metered electricity charges) in return for, say 20plus amps; the purpose of which would be to do away with gas completely . . . .for new caravans?
Don`t hit me too hard, guys . . . just a thought for the future of the industry!

It's more likely to go the other way and be restricted to 10 or 6 amps, the cost involved to the site owners to upgrade their equipment woild be prohibitive.
10-16 amp is sufficient we are all electric already and have been for many years. Just have to remember not to put too many heavy running things on at once.
Only ever blown the electrics off once in the last 30+ years. That was forgetting what we had on then and we had taken less electrical stuff then.

Less potential for fun. Less self reliance.
No thanks.
Do you remember the old primus & dixie. Not sure of your age.
But my dad put a dixie onto the primus when it boiled it was Fussells condensed milk to not only whiten it but sweeten it at the same time.
I loved Fussells much better than the thin, weak stuff nowadays back then you could have a good dollop on a teaspoon and it was so firm it gave you time to shove it into your mouth before it started trickling over the side.
yum can taste it now.
Fussell`s condensed milk/ We had Nestles . . . Ma stuck some on bread. Oh, yes!! . . .She had a sweet tooth, and expected the family to comply also. We didn`t need telling . ..

Some of Swift,s 2013 range now boast 3KW alde heating elements which would require around 12 amps alone never mind the kettle and Bailey did an mains electric only version but i don,t know if that went into production or not
I have noticed this year that more sites have 10 amps rather than 16 this is a simple mod for them just change to a lower rated MCB result instant saving..
If we were restricted to just a 240 volt supply then rallies would be a thing of the past because there would be no demand for gas. Even in todays climate people still want that choice and land owners would also be pressurised in to providing something extra that we don't really need. The answer is to to take less electrical items and enjoy the outdoor leisure for what it was originally intended rather than the necessities that we have to rely on at home.
20A would be fine for seasonal or statics but probably not for tourers although in the winter the extra would be handy for heating in sub zero temps. If Alde heating has the current detector fitted it will shut off heating whilst other appliances are used and then turn it back on when amperage drops back to below the pre set limit. TBH I think the cost of upgrading sites EHU and main supply plus the cost to users of a 20A system and cables would put most off.

Bailey's caravan did go into production, it's the Evo-Orion. I remember their research stated something like 95% of caravanners stay on sites with EHU. Obviously their research will be tainted, as with any White Paper sponsored by a company, but it does sort of make sense. Lighter and cheaper caravans etc. Plus, most caravans I see are parked next to EHUs.
I think upgrading any existing site would be far too expensive, but if I was building a new site, or adding new EHU to a site, then yeah, it makes sense to increase the amps.
Maybe just a few pitches could be upgraded, that have an increased premium for higher amps, (more electric used), then it's a buyers market.
"I have noticed this year that more sites have 10 amps rather than 16"
Must admit, I have too. It doesn`t present a problem even in cold weather (I don`t have gas heating) but if it got any lower . . . . .breakfast time could be cool for kats

Metering individual pitches is probably a non starter as current legislation decrees that the leccie cannot be sold above the buying in price so the cost of installations become irrecoverable. 20 amp supplies sound good but I don't think the demand is there to justify the outlay. Maybe some time very much in the future............Mick
