When sterilising the water waste pipes , I try to block off the two exterior waste outlets with duck tape, however the seal is never good enough and the water I put down the sinks always seems to leak past the tape within 15 mins, not allowing enough time to do its job.
I gave been to the plumbers mercants to see if they do a rubber bung or something similar to temporarily block the outlets, but they are unable to help. I had thought of corks like used to be used for winemaking but no shops seem to sell them. Any ideas of something that will fit the outlets ?
Thanks

I have also been searching for the sort of bung over the past couple of years to do exactly the same job without any success but the rubber bungs in the link are far too big in diameter as I have a few of these already that I used to use to seal the opening on glass demijohns for winemaking. I have previously asked at caravan spares outlets and was told that the reason why they don't manufacture such bungs is because there is no overflow on either the sink or wash basin so it could lead to a flood if the bungs were left in and forgotten about. The waste outlets I believe have two different size tubes but mine happens to be the smaller size and I think that the larger diameter waste outlets tubes were intoduced around 2001. I will watch this thread with interest anyway as sometimes you get someone with a handy tip such as the plasticine but I thought that would somehow slide away with the weight of the water behind it.

The danger of that is any head of water in the sink will try to flow back into the shower until the water levels are equal.

Most DIY stores have push fit waste pipe accessories and you can get 32mm push fit socket plugs. Simply push a short length of pipe on to the connector and then block it with the socket plug. Not sure if you can get them for the smaller pipes but I have not really looked for them. At least with a piece of pipe sticking out from the side of the caravan you are less likely to forget about it! ------------- 'A sure cure for sea-sickness is to sit under a tree'

We only use water from aqua roll through taps for washing and washing up. We always use a jug with fresh water in it. So not much point cleaning waste and input pipes.

Attach your flexible pipes to the outlets and tape them vertically to the side of the van using your duck tape or similar.

Just use the pipe you normally use to fit into the waste container and hold the ends above the level of the sink.
Actually you want to let some of the water leak out just so you know you got all the air out of the pipes.

Came up with a simple idea this last weekend and worked a treat (I had the bits I needed in the front locker all along) I just took the two short lengths About 18" long of the waste pipe pushed each piece onto a waste waste outlet and took the straight waste pipe joiner and joined the two ends together forming a loop back on itself. I then poured Puriclean solution down both sinks until just seeing the water come to the shower drain in the shower, knowing then that all pipework was being sterilised.
Worked Perfectly!
