Hi. We have a new caravan (well, new to us) with a Thetford Cassette Toilet model 402c. In the manual it says not to travel with water in the flush tank, but we only just saw this instruction having downloaded the manual today. We have been away twice in the van, and driven probably 600kms since we got it. We only used the toilet a couple of times, the indicator (clear tube) shows the flush tank is still half full. Does anybody know anything about this? The guy we bought the caravan from told us heaps of info but did not mention this. Thanks!

There is no need to empty flush every time you travel, but make sure it is drained before winter to prevent freezing.

The reason why they advise not to travel with water in the flush tank is merely for stability purposes and reduction of noseweight etc. When you are travelling along, the water will bounce causing a wave effect especially when braking and standing starts. This in turn can have an effect on the stabilty and if there is too much water in the tank it will affect the noseweight because the caravan will have a see-saw effect which can cause the hitch to lift instead of remaining heavy on the towball.

just my opinion but i do not think (advised in my manual) you should carry any water in the flush tank or the heater tank.water is very heavy and the fittings of the thetford toilet on to the wall are not designed to carry water in transit.

Thanks for the answers. I will fill in profile thanks Chalike56. The loo works perfectly we are just new to caravanning and don't want to do anything silly, juts be a pain to have to take water with us to fill flush tank when we get where we are going, especially if it os only a weekend trip. We usually will go to sites where there are no hookups, we have a lot nearby.
