We have decided we want to give a seasonal pitch a try. It's difficult to find somewhere suitable though and places we really like have a long waiting list.

This weekend we have stayed somewhere with a pitch available and we really like the site. The downside is that the season runs from end of march, so we would have to pay pro rata for what's left. Meaning we pay about a thousand for a winter pitch. Seems unfair to pay same for winter as summer or should I just get over that?

We have never winter camped before. I know we wouldn't get a thousand pounds use over winter but on the other hand it would make us use it. We have an 8 year old would he be bored over winter as going out will be less. Any one do winter with children?

Any views?

we are on a sesonal pitch and use our caravan upto Decemeber, we have 3 kids the oldest is 16 so stays at grandparnets the other 2 are 10 and 5 and love it!

You do have to be prepared as its dark so early the evenings are long but there is nothing nicer than tucked up in your van nice an warm, its real family time playing games watching DVD's even sat chatting which in modern life is a novilty!!!

Reason we got the van was to have quality time with the kids and been seasonal enables us to do this all year. Last winter we even sometimes just went for the day if the weather was fine, kids wrapped up an wellies on they have a great time we take the dog out for a long walk then back to the van for Hot chocolate!

We have used our van so much more this last 12 months its been great also i hated towing but love caravaning so suits us really well and we can be there in just under an hour

Oo Rob you have mentioned all the factors I think are important. Family time together. My husband says he'd have no hesitation if it weren't having to pay half for winter and it was discounted slightly.

It is about an hour away too so I think we'd even go for the day.

Go for it!! We have been seasonal for the last 3 years, slight difference this year is that we are winter & summer, really looking forward to it. We are only an hour away (Cornwall)jump in the car on a Friday night arrive at the site, plug the electric in heater & kettle on happy days.
