Anyone know of a quick remedy for squeaky brakes. Just come home from our weekend away, going they were fine but coming home they squeaked every time I slowed down. Is it because I left the handbrake on while it was parked up. Should it be left on or off while it is parked up?

Are you referring to squeaky brakes on the car or caravan?

Hand brake on your van should only be on when parked. You may have done damage to the brake shoes if you have towed with it on infacted im surprised you didnt feel the van "heavier" to tow If they still squeal with the brake off you may have brake dust in the drums or worse the brake not releasing.------------- Animals have feelings..

squeaky brakes are due to dust mainly.some times a bit of grit gets onto the pads.------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

Caravans don't have brake pads michael, they operate on brake shoes. However, it could possibly be dust which requires the drums to be removed and brushed out with a soft paint brush.

Its nothing to do with leaving handbrake on provided brakes are correctly adjusted & everything is in good condition. It is better to leave handbrake off when parked over winter etc, but a few days/weeks on site is ok. Either drums are full of dust &/or brakes are binding slightly due to mechanism partially seizing or poor adjustment. If brake linings are worn out it will be more of a grating noise. When was the 'van last serviced?

Either the brakes need adjusting or cleaning. Either way it should be done by someone who knows what they are doing.

Thanks guys. I didn't drive with it on, it was only after the weekend away it started. The van was serviced last week so maybe they have over adjusted them.

My suspicion is they are under adjusted and thus the linkage is moving farther than it should be. It's also possible that they didn't reassemble it properly though.
