I have just bought a new portable sat dish - works fine - i want to buy a second hand hd sky box off ebay. rather than unplug my home sky box i want to take the new one and just put my veiwing card in it so i can watch the premium channels i proscribe to. now i know i have to ring sky to get the new box paired with the new box. the questions are when they pair the new box and i get home will i just be able to put the veiwing card card back in the home box. and all ok. I rang sky and they say yes it will work but you will need to ring sky every time to swap the cards.
Not sure this is the fact because when they changed the the old sky + box to th eHD one i have now and i tried the new dish i can transfer the card to that box and back to the hd box no problem. now i know that the old sky + box is paired so ok but the theory sky is saying is it right.
i use an older sky box.
also take the £20 card with me and it works ok,but, odd times it has not worked and just ring sky from the caravan and they repair the card while i am on the phone (3 times over the years).
sure i have read somewhere that the new HD cards will not work in the old box as they are paired to the HD box.
Francais will know a lot more than i do on this.

------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Just a quickie, I don't know if you know that you will need a different LNB if you want to watch hd. You will need at least a double as to get hd you need the two cables connected. Sorry if it's granny sucking eggs and all that ,it's just I know a couple of people who did not know this is what they required. I just take my daughters out of her room as her card is already paired with her reciever, and as she is always on holiday with me there is no problem.
You do not need a "double" LNB to receive HD television. If you want to use the Sky + feature, and watch one channel whilst recording another, you will need twin cable and connect this to two of the outlets on your quad LNB. Otherwise single cable will be fine.
It might be easier to take your box with you if you want to watch the premium channels as the card is linked to the box for these. If you get another box your card will allow you to watch all of the channels to which you have subscribed except for the premium bouquet.
I use the card from the box in my house and swap it between the box in my caravan on a regular basis, I don't call Sky to tell them and never have, it works perfectly and when I get home I replace it in that box which also works perfectly. Sky have no way of knowing which box the card is in, all the premium channels work too, obviously you can't get any channel that you need your password for as you won't be hooked up to a phone line
