The remnants of a tropical storm are expected this weekend, with torrential rain and winds up to 60mph. So if your camping or caravanning make sure your lashed down well.
I'd like some advice. I've been camping for lots of years in a tent and have camped in all sorts of gales with no problem.
I have now bought a Swift Conqueror caravan and have no idea how to secure it in a gale on a camp site.
All advice will be appreciated.
------------- We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.
If its going to be windy and you don't need your awning take it down otherwise use storm straps also try and park the car as a wind break in extreme weather some people hitch the car to the van for added stability ( we never have ) ours worst wind was hurricane bill a few years ago the van was rocking and it was v scary I woke dh to see if he was scared but apparently not !!!

Don't bother to take the awning. if you do it may very well be wet all of your stay and then you have to pack it up wet and hope for a fine day when you get home to dry it out properly. Too much hassle. Then, if it is blowing a gale, the pull on your awning rail can be potentially stressful on the mastic and screws holding that rail in place! When you see the awning folding in on itself as the gale bends the poles that may be stressful o nyou wondering if they are going to sanp. They don't but why have the hassle of watching it. Been there done it and don't bother to take the awning this time of year!!!
As for the van it will be fine............park the car a good caravan width from the van if you are parking it on the leeward side so that when it topples over it won't land on the car.
Apart from that............ no worries........just the neighbours wondering what's going on as your van is rocking and theirs isn't
In the alternative...Enjoy and leave the stress at home where it belongs

There always seems to be gale warnigs, I`ve had 3 this yearwhilst caravanning. Some guys cut short their holidays. The gales didn`t turn up. It was a bit windy crossing the River Dee at Ellesmere port a few weeks ago mind . . .
A hotelier in Hawes told me that everytime there`s a snow warning, people cancel their bookings. And the snow doesn`t show up . . . Tough business. It really is.

On the plus side, this thread gave me notice of the rain which made me realise that Sunday was good day to put the autumn feed on to the lawn and now it has been well watered in. Thanks

In spite of today's forecast being that it would brighten, maybe some sunny spells and a lot less rain, it is now pouring down so hard and its so dark I have the lights on at 17.36pm!
Oooh those flood warnings are getting more and more each day.. when is it ever going to stop!!
We have sunshine all day today. Hose pipe ban came into affect around 5pm!!!!!
