With the end of the season fast approaching for us, our thoughts are turning to planning next years trips out with our Caravan, and being as were out and about in North Yorkshire, we decided to do a bit of a reccy and visit a few sites to pick up a few brochures and book a few nights for next spring when we plan to be out and about again.
After pulling into the entrance of one of the large commercial sites near Scarborough this afternoon, we spotted the site office was open and we were just about to pull into the visitors car parking spaces whe we were shouted at by the sites equivelent of a human gaurd dog! 'What do you want? 'You carnt park there' he barked at us before we had even had chance to come to a halt. When we explained what we had come for, he then bombarded us with twenty questions regarding our caravan, he wanted to know make, model, axels, is it insured and serviced, what we towed it with(at which point her went to the rear of our car and looked at the tow hitch) and when and for how long we would be staying, finally reminding us of all the hidden extras ontop of this years old brochure fees we would have to pay to get the equivelent to the standard CC pitch that we are used to.
We are a respectable retired couple, fairly new and well kept car, and Caravan Club badge displayed for all to see, yet this man treated us like the worst pair of hooligans he had ever met, and we certainly didnt get a nice warm welcome as we had received from a couple of other site owners in the area, needless to say that we will be giving him a wide berth when we come to make the rest of next years bookings, and good luck to anyone who books on line and has to contend with him on arrival, he cartainly gets the 'Jobsworth' award from us!

Makes you wonder how they can afford to alienate potential clients in the current climate. Never mind, Julia, I'm sure there are a multitude of sites that'll be only to glad to see you. Only ever experienced one such incident myself some years ago whilst doing a recce, needless to say, never went back and never will...........Mick
I think you ought to name and shame this site without question for all UKCS members alike as they really don't deserve any custom at all with this sort of attitude. I would also be inclined to submit a site review too stating that you didn't book to stay here due to the ill mannered reception prior to viewing the site. After all, it's an honest opinion about the general attitude of the site operators and they deserve nothing less.
Im not sure of the legalities or forum policy on Naming and Shaming, but its not hard to it work out, large site situated just off the Coastal road between Filey and Scarbrough, also tells porkies in its description of being 'with in easy access to the sea and beaches', yes right, only if your super fit and into hiking and rock climbing, not to mention climbing dozens of steep and eroding cliff face steps!
Its the one thats also recently turned its rally field into so called 'super pitches' and has tried to rebrand it under a different name as a separate business which it is not, its still part of the main site which has never really been that good anyway, and TBH, it was the new site name that drew our attention to going on a reccy to find out more, if we had known the con beforehand, we would not have bothered visiting, as we had been conned before over a tent pitch which was booked for 'disabled use' and we ended up being sited on the rally field and having to use our car everytime I needed to use the facilities on the main campsite. this is the field that they are now branding as 'super pitches', although the gaurd dog wasnt in the mood for us to ask if we could take a peek at what they had done to the rally field to make them worthy of this name!

Totally agree. Arriving at a site like that would be a waste of precious and hard earned holiday time.
To be fair to the other parks on the RH side of the coastal road going into Scarbrough, I can confirm that it was not one of those, but one accessed about a mile down a lane to the left, quite near to the big Park Resorts static site, but on the opposite side of the lane heading towards Cayton.
There, I have just about spelled it out now for you!

Personally, I'd name-n-shame 'em (I have done so before) and completely agree with those replies above.
Thankfully I've only encountered this sort of greeting before and it simply isn't acceptable.
There are many campsites between Reighton Sands and Cayton Bay so if you just provide the first letter we should be able to find it under the 'Camp Site Search' facilty in the Scarborough area.
It looks nice on the website but i would rather go to Blue Rose near Hornsea and you get all the Facilities you need and the pitches are great ..............
I think a read of the campsite's rules are enough to put anybody off. Its odd that they state 'no continental caravans' as this would exclude any caravanners from other European countries.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
