The water pump that came with our new-to-us caravan has a Whale water pump with a filter thingy on the end. It says on the filter thingy that it has to be changed every thirty days to keep the water fresh (we don't drink the water from the caravan tap anyway) and to avoid water pump damage.

does anyone replace theirs every 30 days? What happens if I don't? Is this some kind of water pump tax? All advice appreciated!

Like Ralleye 550 we change ours when the van has had its annual service. As for drinking water, we used to use the water from the caravan tap and would still run it  via a Brita water filter jug as well which we keep in the van.

Only problem is some sites water seems to have a taint taste presumably from the water treatment or plastic pipework used and I do love my tea, so now I dont use site water for drinking water, instead I buy the 5 litre bottled water as a special treat every time we are away in the van, you can get that size for about £1.00 and get a lovely cuppa every time!

My sis had problems with black bits in the water, so she just took her filter off altogether and connected the pipe again. As she hasn't died yet, I'm assuming that the connection to the pump and water barrel is ok without a filter!

Why do UK vans have filters,my Hobby doesnt have one and i have never seen any need for one, all filters seem to do is to be a breeding place for germs, we dont have filters at home except for the Britex type filters, and they are a personal choice, for tea or coffee we use a container of fresh water.
