We Bought our 1st caravan lately and on our 1st trip one of the kids bumped against the blind guide and it came away from the wall, we noticed that the wall was soft in this area and all the way up to the roof.
Gutted we booked it in for a service and were told that the damp reading was 25 plus in this area and that there was a small crack under the awning o/s rail and which they said would need repaired.
We bought the van in good faith and feel sick as the garage said the person who sold us the van would have known about it.
We have not got the funds to pay for a costly repair so I have sealed the joint above the awning rail with Siklaflex which seems to have stopped the leak as water would drip on top of the window seal before but not now.
Can anybody please tell me if the wall can be dried out and if my repair will be suffice. Apart from the leak it is a great van and does not smell of any damp?
Readings between (15-20%) dealer to make a note of these readings and re-check at next service.
Readings between (20-24%) possible early signs of ingress, look for tangible evidence or ask for a re-check.
Readings between (25-30%) moisture evident, remedial work required; may not need stripdown unless surface damage (staining, pimpling, and softness) is apparent. (There is a risk of wallboard deterioration due to retained moisture in the structure if resealed only.)
Reading (31 % and above) structural damage is occurring, deterioration inevitable. a full stripdown of the affected area is required.
may not be as bad as you think.a temporary seal will help but it needs the rail removing and doing correctly.are you sure it is not the door rubber letting water in?

------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
As michael says above but, someone recomended an infra red heater to dry out damp as this heats only whats in front of it instead of heating the full van also piercing very minute holes that cant be seen might allow the damp to escape quicker ?
yes i would too.<img align="absmiddle" src="forum_images/smiley20.gif">
This subject of using a dehumidifier Michael seems to be the same as the stabiliser subject.A lot on here says its a waste of time as it draws air from the outside.
I have used one. on one of my vans and it works along with a convector heater that blows hot air.Seems to me youve got to make up your own mind what to use as some on here are "For"and some "against"
