Yesterday we went to collect our van from where it was being stored since we purchased it a couple of weeks ago to bring it home and put in the back garden now we have a hard standing made as we are lucky enough to have access and the space.

On arriving at the storage site in Shropshire 60 miles from our house in North Wales, we found that several items had been stolen, other than the Bradcot porch awning nothing of any real value but its still annoying as we have to replace them before Sunday as we go away for a few days. The items taken from the van were the corner leg winder, the porch awning, 6kg propane bottle, propane regulator, spare wheel, TV aerial and mast, leisure battery and the hook up lead.

Obviously as the things were in the van and locker we pointed fingers at the previous owner who obviously denied all knowledge, luckily for us we are not too far from a couple of caravan breakers in Old Colwyn and St Asaph so apart from the awning we are all sorted now, still annoying me though as I should have brought the items back with me but a lesson learnt there I guess.

That is shocking that someone could take all that stuff! I've heard of things being stolen from vans but never so much stuff in one go.

There was no damage to the doors or locks on the van, hence why we think the previous owner took the stuff using spare keys perhaps, we had arranged with the storage owner to keep the van there for two weeks whilst we had the rear driveway sorted, as I said we have replaced everything but the awning as that can wait until next year.

That's awful, especially if they were part of the deal when you bought it. The things you mention though have an excellent resale value on car boots, etc, so it could be anybody who has a set of keys that will fit. I would complain to the storage owner re. security before you go.

Did you ask the seller if everything in the caravan was included in the sale when you agreed to buy it & were the contents even mentioned? If you assumed everything was included then probably the owner did not so he removed the items & then lied to avoid an argument.

If this was the case it sounds more like a misunderstanding than theft but does illustrate the need to establish & get in writing what extra items are including in the sale before parting with money.
