Your making me jealous!! We havent been out in ours since October and its the first time we laid it to rest for winter since we started in 2006! We have booked onto a nice site on 2nd Jan for 5 nights, we usually go away for New Year but we are saving our money this year and going after all the hype!
Weve had frozen water/pipes/frozen toilet/burst tap in the bathroom, bearing in mind weve been out in -7 and snow one year! The only thing I dont like about winter caravanning is the dark nights and setting up when its dark, apart from that you cant beat it as the weather is usually dryer and sunnier in winter and the roads/sites alot quieter.
Oh well back to the housework and putting the Xmas tree up! Enjoy your weekend.
Its great this time of year. I the only person on the site and it is so nice to get away to peace and quiet. Now thinking in winter mode and got the Aquaroll insulation in place and the big bucket for the waste water. Spare 25l water carrier in the caravan ready for when the taps freeze up again tonight! I think I am probably using more electricity than I am paying for the pitch though....
With most modern caravans and motorhomes built for winter use I can never work out why people pay thousands of pounds for a unit that they only use in the summer. Walking along the beach in N Norfolk can be a bit 'challenging' in temperatures around zero and a strong N wind but its invigorating and then coming back to a lovely warm caravan and a slow cooker full of chicken curry is something not to be missed.

we use ours all year , its just all about common sense when its freezing , a few years we decided to have xmas and new year in Spain , but when we got of the ferry in France it was straight into a Blizzard , we had over 500 miles of driving through snow and temps of minus 10

Yes about the dark nights putting up. BUT is lovely and cosy once your inside, all snug ad a bug. Hardly any housework, that has to be good.
Well, just been for a walk in the New Forest and returned back to the van and it's gorgeously warm and cosy. Bought some new bulbs today too so the caravan seems warmer just from the lighting (halogen bulbs).
Chicken curry is cooked and just needs to be re-heated later, now to spend the evening chilling out.
Hopefully the camp site water tap wont freeze tonight, but I have the water bottles in the fridge to be safe, but I always like to top up the aqua roll before bed so we can wash in the warm in the morning without going outside to get water.
We are due to pick up our new caravan on Monday and fancy taking it out for the first time at the weekend.
We can't wait and reading all of these posts above has put me even more in the mood for some winter caravanning! Good tips about storing water in the van in case of freezing hadn't thought of that!
Does anyone know of a good all year round site around the Bristol / South Gloucestershire area or even central England?
Never been over winter, but the owners will go out of their way to make sure you're happy. We stayed last year and promised to go back, but never made it.
It's a gorgeous site! Have fun, it's so cosy in winter, also make sure you have the right gas that doesn't freeze in bad weather, the red one.
Enjoy every second as I'm home now and wishing I was in the van again.
Oh if only...we had known we could get a caravan and then have to swop the car that has no towbar 2 days later !!!....killing us knowing i have a van on the drive for the 1st time in 7 years and no way of towing it...and its all kitted for winter use...all i can say we did new years eve rally 20 plus years ago in a van 2ft away from the next ...totally froze up..but it was the best ! roll on 2013 !!!!

I agree with how nice it is . But for me I can't cope with the dark. After about 4.00 it's dark and yes not much house work but just sitting in a box kills me. I can't sit for that long . No where to go and nothing to do until about 9.am as much as I love going away I can't cope with the sitting around in a confined space.
So what do you all do.
The last time we went in the winter. I used the evening to cook dinner. Then walk back and fore to the toilet block a few times. Then went to bed ealy.
Roll on Easter.
We are on a CL in Lancashire and there are 2 other vans on site. We have plumbed in water, the owners supply post has built in heaters apparently so the supply to it does not freeze and our filler hose has been lagged. Lovely and warm in our van. Agree with the toilet door comment though..
We have just returned from a midweek camping trip in Porthcawl. It was our first time out in a caravan and we wanted to see if everything worked.. It did . We were the only ones on sight and it was wonderful. It did get cold out but we were so warm and cosy inside the van and woke up to the most stunning views. Cant wait to go out again.. A massive thumbs up to winter caravaning
