Bought our cover from Ebay, good price £69.99 14-17ft from PF Jones, arrived swiftly with no problems.

Fitted it today after spending all morning cleaning and winterising the van, well it's not easy to say the least but thought I'd share with you how it went.

We had 2 step ladders, one either side and started off by putting the whole thing onto the roof as didn't want to risk it going on the floor, after undoing the straps and zips we managed to find the label stating the 'the front' so went from there.

Our caravan measured just a touch over 16ft from where you have to measure them from, rear to front of van but not including the A frame, we had worried about the sizing but the 14-17 is fine with plenty of room for the aerial and chimney.

Plan to roll it all up into a ball ontop of the roof and put away like that to try and make it easier to put back on again next winter, as I'm sure we will forget how to do it.

Certainly a 2 person, 2 ladder job but hope it's all worth it in the spring/easter when the cover comes off to reveal a clean van, plus we were advised when we had it serviced in March that due to it's age, 1994, it would benefit from a cover to keep the rain off.

We have a ProtTec and which has a video on the net of how to put it over the van. Rest it on the A frame and put poles into it,  either side of the van, and then the two of you walk to the back dragging the cover over the van with the Poles. Doesn't work. Once its lifted on to the roof its a case of up the ladder and drag it into place! Bit of faffing around but once in place it's worth the hassle.....I think. Probably best to start from the roof

Hi Phil

I thought starting at the roof was the easiest place, what made it a harder job was we didn't realise that being new out of the box all the straps were done up to each other, once undone it was easier slightly17

Out of all the caravans at our storage place ours is the only one with a cover and winter wheels on17

I think the folk at the factory that make them do that deliberately for a laugh

Phil,

Got our new Protec and we had a hell of a job to put it on even though advised to get the one that also opens up at the back. Struggling to get it over what with  me in a wheelie did not work as Bob was struggling like mad to get it along.

The storage owner used to own Camping International at Horsham before it became Camping World. He said for us do it from back to front as the opening at the back will help in the chair. The open back is a great asset it is virtually the whole size of the back of the caravan.. You then just velcro doorway shut.

But I do like the idea of rolling back up & over to the middle, rolling front up to middle and then it would be easier for us to just reverse it all when putting it up & over again. Not so much of a strain on either of us

. Cannot guarantee anyone being there next time to be able to help us.

I have one of the cheaper covers. I open the four corner zips and throw it over the caravan with my wife holding one side. I go around the other side and get a hold of any bit and drag it into place and zip up. I push a wooden pole under the caravan to get the straps though. About ten minutes? Don't need a ladder?
Fred.
