Santa has arrived early in the Emmit house in the shape of a Garmin Nuvi 2545 Sat Nav.
I am particularly seeking help in inputting map coordinates in anticipation of using the ACSI book next summer.
The Instructions merely say;
"To search for coordinates, enter latitude and longitude coordinates"???
I've tried the 12 No's as one long string, dividing them up into 6 pairs both with and without the Points of compass in front of each 6 ie NEWS.(both with and without a space between the compass point and the pair of coordinates.)
In each case the sat nav returns the request with the legend;
Cannot find search results for etc etc.
Is there anyone out there who uses a Garmin can point me in the direction as to where I'm going wrong?

I am puzzled as to why you are bothering with Long/Lat when you can download the campsite POI's from here and load them onto your sat nav? The work has already been done for you.
Because,(big breath) I don't feel confident about downloading from one device to another.
My last Sat Nav was first generation and wasn't downloadable?
I'm afraid unwittingly I have become a dinosaur when it comes to modern technology and it will take a lot of catching up to get back up to speed.

Why not download them and have a read of the instructions that Archie provides with them as a first step? Nothing would be lost and perhaps there is a lot to be gained. I had to buy a Garmin when I was in France because of a problem with my TomTom and I found that it had lots of campsite POI's already installed so that is another avenue to explore. I never did get round to adding any POI's to the Garman so I don't know how you do it but on a TomTom its pretty straigtforward and I an sure there would be lots of help here if you decided to have a go.
You will find that most ACSI listed campsites are already pre-loaded into your Garmin, but there is no separate POI menu for them.
My Garmin is a 255w around 4 years old, and downloading ACSI CampingCard, along with all ACSI campsites and Archie's was straight forward.
So my Garmin now has 3 separate POI sections which is great, although I only downloaded French campsites and not all European campsites as we only go camping in France.
I always find it best to find the site on google maps first and use the satellite view to make sure where the gate is. very often with sat navs they can take you near where the post code or coordinate are but that is not where the entry gate is.
Having found where you're going to, adjust the position of your destination on the sat nav screen then save it as a favourite.
With lat long coordinates there are various ways of saying them. Sometimes degrees, minutes and seconds or degrees minutes and decimal minutes. Sometimes degrees and decimals degrees. The value you input must match what the sat nav is expecting and set to receive.
Post codes are not always reliable, especially out in the countryside. About a month ago we went to a pub in the New Forest for a 50th birthday party. Fortunately I had printed the driving instructions in which they said " when your sat nav says you have arrived at your destination continue for another hundred yards along the road" which amused me a bit!!! I think POI's are a much simpler alternative.

Nawer, whilst it's fine to put in the postcode (usually) in the UK because it's specific to a 'tight' area, this, as David above points out, is not the case in the countryside.
It's even worse in, lets say France where the Postcode covers a whole town or village.
