We have just taken our caravan out for it's service & we couldn't believe how dirty it was, even though it's stored partially enclosed!
So we've decided to buy a cover.
Not as simple as I thought. There are so many makes, ranging in various models and prices... then I learn there is fitting problems with aerial & flu points ... catching on rails with sharp edges and then there is the colour (lol).
Can anyone out there recommend a decent cover for our 17/4, 03/04 Coachman Amara - Wanderera (the one with the air con on top).
Are the ones with door access better?
Can you put the covers on wet caravans?
Is it best to have a custom one made, if so what do the prices range too and from?
We were lucky enough to find a little used second hand Pro Tec cover for our van. Fits really well being custom made for our Caravan and very high quality.
Go for a protec cover which is made to measure and is breathable. Don't bother for this winter as no one thinks about buying a cover until winter and then the company is "snowed under" with orders so they can't deliver until the spring. Order now so you have it for next winter.
Our little baby is wrapped up in her Protec cover and we are supposed to be getting three weeks of snow now. It also has a door on, as do all Protec covers, so we can get in if we need to.....just to say hello and empty the dampbuster

After selling our previous van and protec cover, we got larger van we didnt have the money for another protec one, We got a universal cover, breathable and water resistant, you cant tell the difference between the material from this on and the protec,(time will tell) it has zips at each size, which can be used to open the door. We put caps over the status ariel made from plastic corks from cheap Champagne bottles. We use our cover all year round, the van is on the drive, we empty and wash the van on return from any trip, we do make sure that all water has drained off the roof, and the van is not soaking wet, then the cover goes on. I clean out the van with the cover on, normally the next day. We have had no problems with this cover and have been using it for nearly 2 year, yes its a bit baggy but I can live with that.
I priced a Protec cover and then we bought a standard cover instead. Standard covers simply don't fit our van with the top folded down and the door on the wrong side. However it took OH an afternoon's sewing to shorten it, and add a small half-petal shaped gusset at the front. It has zips on all four corners so no problem with the door on the opposite side. It fits like a glove now.... and we saved over £300.
