I have been looking on the internet at going cockpit micro caravans,Thought this might be easier and cheaper than buying a campervan I use my car at work.
I am 5 ft 7 ins so I may be too tall
Any other ideas.
thanks
Any bed will be 6ft so you would be ok. If you want a small caravan you would be better off buying an Eriba Puck, these hold their value & you can always sell them. If you buy something unusual you risk being stuck with it or losing a fortune if you want to sell it.
Can't argue with Tentz's logic if you are worried about resale - Eribas are well known and very well made though I'm not sure the Puck is made anymore, so it would have to be a secondhand one, but should be plenty around including from a dealer such as Automotive Leisure - there's another dealer in Scotland whose name I can't remember at the moment, if that's nearer. Edit - just looked at your location and Scotland is just a bit closer to you! I'll see if I can remember who the Scotish dealer of Eribas is.
Other makes you may or may not have come across that are comparable with the Cockpit in size are Freedom Caravans - another imported brand but cheap and light and seem to have a devoted following, and T at Bs (though possibly a bit larger and more expensive than the Going) available from several dealers inclding Southdowns and Airstream UK.
Barry Stimpson (been around as an innovative designer for a long time) makes an interesting Multipod.
Wheelhome normally make small campervan conversions but for a few years did make what looked like a well designed little caravan called the Sprintaway. No longer made and not many were made at the time but if you see one secondhand it would be worth a look.
If you are happy with something even smaller there's quite a few companies making or importing teardrops. If you haven't come across them they are basically a bed and kitchen on wheels though they can still get quite luxurious in terms of quality and extras fitted. If you are interested I can post quite a few links to companies that are currently active on the net - just let me know.
PS I presume you've been looking at the Cockpit on Red Lion Caravan's website. You might also be interested in the website of the Portuguese company that actually makes them here though to be honest there's not a great deal of info there. But they do have the bed dimensions - 1.95x1.60m
On that website the Going is £7,495 so you would have to be pretty certain you intended to keep it for many yrs. You can often find 1980s Eriba Pucks for about £2k in really good nick & mid 90s are usually £3.5k upwards. You need to check chassis members for rust but many that have been imported secondhand from continent have been garaged & are in 'time warp' condition.
You will pay £7k upwards for a late model & I think they are still in limited production in Germany although the French factory has now closed. Main point about a Puck is that you can always sell it for as much or more than you paid for it. Scottish Eriba dealer is Jandi but plenty buy them secondhand from dealers in Northern France/Belgium/Holland where they tend to be cheaper.
