lost 2 of me feet, not bothered replacing them, they just ain't strong enough to do what they are supposed to do. one of my 2 remaining ones is cracked where I didnt use wood (twas under the other side so the legs would reach, very tilty pitch!)
So it seems that the only real reason for the wooden blocks is to stop the plastic feet that we all seem to have attached these days from breaking !
It really does make you wonder what the point of the plastic feet is.
Our van came with the feet on, but I'm not sure I will bother to replace them if (when) they break.
I'm surprised someone hasn't invented some pieces of wood that are specifically designed to put under caravan feet.
I've never bothered with plastic feet for the reasons stated, I always use wooden blocks. I have a good pile of bits of 4x2 in 6" to foot lengths & it prevents having to wind legs too far down if I am on uneven ground.
& someone has indeed invented things to go under corner steadies to pack them up a bit. You will find them in any caravan shop but bits of 4x2 out of a skip are cheaper.
Hmmm.. I too have never put wooden blocks under the plastic feet. I also have wondered why so many do on hardstandings? In all the years on all the terrains, I have never had one of the plastic feet crack. I do however, keep in the front box two boxes of Staka Pads (the round plastic risers that lock into each other and onto the underside of the big foot. Because we always normally book level hardstandings, I have only used the Staka Pads once in the last 3 years and that was on a grass sloping pitch at Wood Farm last year.
I never carry blocks of wood as i think we carry enough crap as it is
Never found any need for blocks of wood i too have a box of stackapads that i've used rarely
Never had problems with my plastic feet
We lost one plastic foot in transit and broke another... Gave up with them in the end and just carry 4 wooden blocks in the van to wind the steadies down onto. never broken one of our blocks
I put the blocks down in storage too.... No reason apart from habit I think.
Just had a thought... It is a good way of making sure you didn't leave one on site!
I only use bricks when van is stored, when on site Ihave the four plastic feet fitted never had any problems with them but managed to pick up three of the same brand for a quid at a car boot just in case I lost any.
I also carry and use wooden blocks and always have done. I think for me it goes back to days before hardstanding pitches.
My blocks are around 6" x 6" x 1" and my reasoning is that it gives a larger footprint and less likely to sink in softer ground.
As an example we were on a so called hardstanding in one site and within minutes the caravan wheels had sunk 2" so didn't feel that the corner steadies would have worked that well without the benefit of the blocks.
