Well we have bought a caravan after years of camping under canvas. We have bought a 5 berth Lunar Jupiter. No idea what we are doing but neither have the other 3 couples we go with!!! Going for a trial run in March to a lovely little campsite in Hunmanby (Saxdale House). Any tips would be gratefully received
Hi welcome to 'canned' holidays, By going fairly local for your first outing shows you have common sense, and your also used to 'roughing' it, so the foundations are laid, My tips are use the 'search' facility on this site for plenty of advice, read lots ,ask more, and enjoy it all, If, as it seams there is a group of you, then I think you will enjoy each others errors. But please be careful with the safety aspects of Towing and setting up. good luck and good holidays,
Regards, John.
------------- Life is our Holiday enjoy it before its time to go back!
Have a dry run at home, with the water system first . . . try everything out, toilet, taps, fridge . . .gas appliances . . . and take an electric heater in case!
Have a good `un!
------------- Peripheral people don`t have as much excitement but they sure live longer
My advice would be make a checklist of things to do / remember before setting off. We are just going into our second year of caravaning and still run through a checklist before setting off.
Congratulations on your new van. We went from tents to trailer tent then van, best thing we ever did as now we go away more than ever and all year round.
Well done you will not regret it. We have gone the tent, trailer tent route and now caravan. wish we had gone direct to caravan but would not have changed anything over the last 40 years or so. Here is a helpful link one of many if you google
we moved from tent to caravan in 2011 and haven't regretted in once. my tip would be to laminate a checklist of things to do when you set off, arrive at site and leave, such as checking the electrics on the back of the van once you've hitched up, fixing towing mirrors, making sure windows and door are shut/locked. turning gas on/off, filling/draining water etc. there seems to be so much more to remember than when we just had the tent.
I also have a list of items we pack, such as food stuff etc, i keep this on my computer and print it off the week before we go and cross of what we've already got in the van and then use it as my shopping list for the trip.
Above all enjoy it.
Thanks everyone. I made a checklist for when we had a tent and will do the same for the van......June she is called as she is a lunar Jupiter will put keys on the list though out+about-1
