"Id use the 'nose' test' If it smells ok when you go in, it cant be that bad with or without a bit of damp."

My thoughts exactly! Daisy smelt lovely when we went in her.  A lot of the othwers did not.  And she was the cheapest!  £600.

Beware if all you smell is air freshener when you go in. I would suggest and Avondale Mayfly although not sure whether a 1.6 engine is good enough.

You could look for a Freedom or an Eriba as they are small and light. Your car would certainly pull one of those.

They are the makes and both have various models. Just google them. They are small and light.

Its all fine looking at the technicalities of whether your car is 'suitable' for a particular caravan, but often, the amount of stuff piled into both car and 'van when you set off, then puts you dangerously near or over the 'line'.

The car wants to be well on top of the job when its towing. You dont want to be down to second gear on hills etc. If its struggling half the time, its just going to wreck the clutch and/or engine. And theres the aforementioned weight issue as regards the car 'holding' the van down if it gets a bit blowy. Remember, if the vans the same weight as the car once all the junk is piled in, and it decides it wants to go in a contrary direction to you, it will take you with it.

Get a car that 'plays' with the van weight/powerwise, and you will be fine.

I am sorry but I totally disagree! Not all damp vans smell, believe me.

hiya...just be careful what you buy, and please take a damp meter with you, we were well and truly stung last year, went to see a 97 abi jubilee, it looked perfect and the owner assured us it had no damp.we were a bit green ,so did not test for damp, after parting with £1,500 and bringing it home, we spotted what looked like a new panel inside one of the cuboards, on removing it we found the whole frame was as rotten as a pear.i was crying, then we found this site, and with some good advise we stripped it and replaced the lot, cant wait to take it out....just need a decent tow-car now.....p.s we brought it as sold as seen...so could not do a lot about it....

we are going to York later today to pick up an
Elddis Wisp 350/2 to start caravanning again.
We have had lots of caravans over the yrs.
WE sold an Compass venture 304 / 19 months ago, the one like the elddis xplore L shape lunge 2011 mod.
We did not like the slope on front window when trying to lounge watching tv. and bed was funny.
Back then we had lots of stuff to do with things we were involved with, but now retired and bored, missing our friends on the ccc meets Rally's we are buying a cheap wiso. Jest right for getting ready for next year and first meet will be jest outside york tonight and tomorrow night may stay till mon on way home lol.
