Can anyone give me some advice in relation to a decent alarm for the caravan. I've been on e bay and there are some PIR alarms for about £6 anybody use these? are they any good or should I go for more expensive types any advice welcome.

Problem with the cheap 'portable' PIR ones is they are very easy to smash / disable / throw in a bucket of water !

Better than having nothing, but probably not as good as a decent wired in system.

Where is your caravan kept ?
Would you hear the alarm if it went off ?

You could take all the seats out and store in the loft and leave the curtains open as thieves will not steal a van with no seating as it costs too much to replace. On the site a few alarm stickers will deter them too.If they want it they will take it no matter what security you have its been proven.

If it's on the drive, then the cheap one might do the job.
We have one that we use when it's stored on the drive and it's quite loud, but quite easy to disable.

Problem is they don't go off for around 10 seconds after entering the van, so if it can be seen the thief could disable it before it even goes off !

You could always get two and have one at either end of the van. Might take them a while to defeat two of them !

Or as Jeff says above take all the seats out and leave the curtains open if possible.

Anything you can do to increase the Security is better than nothing. But a decent system is better than a cheap on.

I've peppered my van with bits and pieces, some cheap, some expensive.

Hopefully when the the toe rags take a look at it they will either be put off, or tempted to go else where.

Must admit I feel a little let down by the system with theft of vans, it would appear that little is done by the government to deter this, and the Police seem happy just to let it go when it happens.

We are pretty much at the mercy of the thieves, who seem to get away with this all the time.

Perhaps this is because they would rather ignore it than deal with the most likely culprits.

Its pitiful really.
