Hi, just an update for those reading this post.  I've talked to Greenflag reference this.  They've advised that they would attend a caravan if either it or the tow vehicle broke down.

However, unfortunately, they can't recover it if, its over 22.96 foot in length, over 2.55 meters wide, over 3 Meters high, or over 3.5 ton in weight.

I did check to see if the 3.5 ton was for combined vehicle weight, and the chap said no, this is just for the weight of the caravan.

There is no extended service for caravans exceeding the above he advised.

Here is an update on the britannia rescure policy which i have in place.

Policy states caravan or trailer should not be more than 8 metres length and have a 50 mm ball coupling on,  motorhomes should not be longer than 8metres and should weigh less than 7.5 tonne fully loaded. The motorhome has to be a recognised make and model and built for that purpose.

European cover applies to permanent named vehicles and Uk cover covers up to a max of 2 vehicles.

It looks like the policy covers just me and hubby. I am a member of the CSMA so I get it at a reduced rate and its always around £86 a year, it states on the website that this covers starts at £136 if you go direct through Britannia rescue.

The reason I have always used them is because we have a large caravan which is 7.99 metres long and they have an 8metre length restriction, thats why I have never bothered with any of the others as I know most have a 7 or 7.5 restriction on them!

I've taken Britania cover. I didn't mind wavering the home start as I've got that with two other free accounts. The cost of cover for both the car and a van up to 8M is £65.00 so a bargain.

This is the cover for just Britain so additional for Europe. It covers the vehicle not the driver.

Glad you've got it sorted at a good price. I looked at mine and I paid £89 for full cover inc European but I get discount due to being a member of the csma. I think it's a good price considering the quotes I got from the cc for just European cover it was ridiculous. Mines due for renewal in may so hopefully it won't have increased much, I need it for end of may when we go to northern France.
Iv never had to call them out so don't know what their service is like!

I have applied and paid for membership with the AA today for Roadside and Relay as they assured me they cover caravans as standard on their policies and our twin axle falls within their requirements.

Hoping we won't need to use it on our maiden voyage to Isle Of Wight this weekend but also hoping we now have peace of mind that help will be at hand should we need it 17

We get green flag through a bank account which my wife works for that bank. We rang green flag to ask if caravans are covered. The reply we got was they are covered as long as they are under 7m in length. We have a twin axle which is over that so we took out green flag with caravan club. No restrictions on weight or length.

Just noticed this post whilst I was searching for details of break down cover.
I have just renewed our Breakdown cover with The green insurance company. Cost of cover for over two miles away from residence on a 2 year vehicle towing a trailer upto 7 mtrs long is £18.80. Price includes pickup fr both car and trilaer in the event of breakdown which can't be repaired at road side. We also have the camper insured seperately whilst not attached to the car. Could be worth checking out.

Thats a good price. Problem is with ours the vans 7.99 metres and most breakdown companies dont cover vans over 7 metres. Alot of people dont realise this and dont even check if any restrictions apply to length etc!! Thats why we have to stick with Brittannia rescue as they stipulate a length of 8 metres for the van.
