Well my van wasn't level, it was slightly up on the near side to assist water draining to the off side and it still froze. So I am not sure your theory works Andy.

mine is always absolutely level, first thing i do when we stop to pitch up,mainly for the fridge but other than that if its not level bathroom doors have a mind of there own.i can only think in my case the waste container froze first and water stopped going in and then backed up into the waste pipe and froze.no way of knowing for sure.

It is a good idea to fit the waste pipes into the waste container so they only just go through the hole, rather than under the level of any liquid in the container
