My husband has just telephoned to let me know that we have no electric in our caravan. The lights are working but nothing else. He has checked the master switch and it is in the correct position. Can anyone advise please?
Many thanks.
Is he on a site? If so, has the electric been working at all since he got there? If so, he may have tripped the power. There are generally three switches next to the master switch in the caravan so he needs to check them all. If this doesn't help, he needs to check if the power has tripped at the post where he connected the main cable.
If he has not had power since he arrived, I would check the connection of the EHU at the post and at the caravan - then, if that doesn't work, ask at the site office.
Thanks for your reply Ronni. It is on a seasonal pitch & been working last three weeks. However, he did say it has been tripping quite a bit. Think he's ruled out the campsite elecs being at fault.
If the switch is in the correct position (van)then i would say its the ehu as Ronni54 says.If you can, swop electric pole with a neighbour to see if it still trips or power comes back on.
just possible he is using too much power, our van will trip if we use a water heater/electric fire/tv and then put the kettle on,just means turning one off when you need the kettle.
a micro wave will trip mostly trip the electric if not designed for a caravan.
too high power
.lights could be 12 volt.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Sometimes it can be the fridge as well. I've known at least two fridges on EHU that tripped all the time - and there was no tripping when the fridges were switched over to gas. The only way to find out is to switch all electrical items off, then switch them back on and then off again one at a time.
Generally, as michael says, using two things that heat at the same time is generally the case. So the kettle or the fan heater, the electric cooker or the water heater. Not all at the same time.
Switched the control panel to on? I know that sounds daft...but even I have have found that with no power I forgot to do that!!!!! Doh
