hi all travelling from ireland to blackpool and lakes in june, catching late ferry so looking for somewhere to pull in for a few hours on the A55 near conway/chester area. thanks
there is a site right beside the chester by-pass near broughton ,but not sure of the name ,theres another one at halkyn mountain ,but with both sites there on the opposite side of the A55 to your direction of travel.so will take a bit of google map planning on your part .
the best bet would be the one by the beach at llandullas ,direct 100 yard access off the A55 ,right direction of travel its called craig-y-mor caravan park .hope this helps
Have a look on Camp Site Search for those suggested and possibly a few others. There is a service area on the M56 near Chester and a truckstop (Deeside?) which I'd assume takes caravans, but for the price of overnight parking you may as well use a (hopefully!) quieter site.
if you just want to pull in as you say for a few hours kip ,without booking in anywhere ,there is the site of the old coed-mawr market at greenfield its about 3-4 miles off the A55 along the coast road ,leading towards rhyl about half a mile before the funship ,search it out on google maps .
trouble is its sometimes used by travellers so it might be o.k or not .
whoa kevin just had a thought ,this is a great one look up the halkyn turn off on the A55 on google maps ,if you come off there and turn left about 300 yards along the road on your left there is a massive lay-by .plenty of room to pull up and relatively quiet to as its set back from the main road .ideal and in your direction of travel ,pull out turn round and your back on the A55 in half a mile .
the layby is on the A5026 on the left just past ,pwll melyn cottage .
The petrol station just after j33 on the east bound A55 usually has plenty of room to stop
There is even a little thief there if you lke that kind of thing!
If not chester services at j14 M56 has a caravan area but check the signs because I think you only get 2hrs free
The one at chester is known as the chester southerly caravan park. There is also a caravan clubsite near cheshire oaks. Which is close to the Chester services. The Chester services although the claim to have caravan parking it is not great in my opinion and I would avoid it.
The site near Llandulas has the best accessibility; it's Bron y Wendon, but you may need to book. It's popular.
There is also this, which s accessible from both carriageways and is within half a mile or so of A55

We can see the A55 in the distance and use it daily, so know these are 2 good options for you.
If you want a lovely little site about 2 miles off the '55 on Anglesey, I recommend Trefollwyn Farm, Llangefni.
For some reason, when I edited, it deleted the link and details for the other campsite
penisar Mynydd, just off the A55 at the top of Rhuallt hill.
