Has anyone painted an Eriba caravan - dimpled surface, if so what did you use? we've just bought a classic model in excellent condition but in need of a new coat.
I used the roller method on my Land Rover defender with good results make sure you use the right roller foam ones can leave an orange peel affect. You will get all the kit you need from a coach (car) paint suppliers. It's a good way of covering a large area quite quickly and paint shades are infinite.
Jax365 not sure about halfords but again any decent car paint supplier will sort you out, Had a look at your van in your profile hell that's going to be a lot of work with the masking tape for the brown stripe I am not sure if it would make much difference which would be best first but others may know better.
Freida, if you're not already a member of the UK Eriba Forum (www.eribaforum.co.uk) I recommend you join.
I'm sure you'll get great advise about painting you're dimples and all things Eriba from the good folk there.
Jax if you are using the same color I would say no what you will have to do is first"key" the paint by giving it a good rub down with a scotch bright pad same as used for washing up this will give the new paint something to grab on to. After you have rubbed down and before you even open the paint tin you will need to give all surfaces a good rub down with panel wipe (you will get this from a car paint suppler) this shall remove all dust grease and anything else that could ruin your paint.
Thanks for all the suggestions and info. I was told not to rub the paint surface with any household products but I guess the paint supplier will have some ideas about how to key the surface
Scotch pad is what the paint suppliers will sell you, it the same as a washing up green pad.
It gives a very light sanding effect, very light scratches then for the paint to key to. At the most it will take the shine off the existing paint and that's all.
A gallon of prepaint would be good and give it a good clean before painting, it removes any greese etc.
Ha! that's true enough. There's no shine on the existing paint though although there might be when she's had some tlc.
I'll start with the washing up pad then. Ta.
i was once told by a old decorator many years ago that you can not not get brush marks in gloss paint, only the brush can do this.what he meant was use the best brush you can afford to get the best finish,or as i said a roller.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
