I was watchingb the caravan show and it said that the grey window trims are prone to going brittle. is there anything i can use to help prevent it. Mine all seam fine now but i would rather try and prolong there life than replace them all.
I though this was just a problem on Eribas from around the mid 90s that were fitted with grey window rubbers that eventualy disintergrate? I've never heard of it being a problem on other caravans.
To maintain window rubbers use silicone spray, this is non oil based lubricant suitable for plastic/rubber. You will find it in Halfords etc with the other spray lubricants. Open windows right up & spray rubbers with silcone & rub in. Do this about twice a year.
Some of my Avondale grey rubber seals are looking a little hard but I want to renew them all with the black seals from Seals Direct. Going to work out quite pricey as I think the seal I require is about £9 per metre
Brill thanks will get it this weekend along with my silicone spray for the rubber and my talc were the rubbers touch 😄 just found it on flea bay it will do rubber as well so I won't need the silicone spray. That's saved money for an extra bottle of wine to christen the caravan with on our first trip out lol
I had to change the grey plastic strip to all the front windows as it had shrunk in the corners, the previous owner had it in storage facing the sun, it was an easy enough job to replace, however prevention is better than cure.
------------- A man with one watch knows what time it is; a man with two watches is never quite sure.
We were prepaired to change the plastic when we saw it was grey. As the van was a bargain and immaculate do with it even having to do that job. When I took the curtains down at the front and noticed the plastic heading tsp on the curtains had gone brittle I was sure the grey rim would be but we have looked everywhere and it looks fine. May be as it was owned by an engineer he new about it and had protected it before. But after looking in YouTube and seeing how easy the 303 goes on we're going to use that intact hubby's planing on doing his new transit van anything he can with it lol
Thanks for the info on the 303 spry I got some of flebay this morning unfortunately it had leak so there was not a lot left in the bottle but I thought I would give it a try as well as protecting the grey trim its brought the window rubbers and all the plastic inside and out up like new. I thought the front outside windows were eather black faded grey or grey there not its got rid of that old fry look and it's actuly bronze. I am so please with this stuff I am always going to have a bottle in. Hubby's on his wAy home now as he wants to do his transit with it. I can't believe the differences it's made. I did think if I sprayed hubby with it he might look a lot less grey old and faded but he didn't fancy the idea lol
