HAD A GREAT OUTING AT NETWON MILL IN BATH, BRILL SITE AND GREAT FACILITIES. UNFORTUNATELY HAD A SLIGHT MISHAP WHEN MANEUVERING VAN BY HAND AND KISSED A BOLLARD, IT WASN'T VERY HARD AND THE REAR PLASTIC BUMPER TOOK THE IMPACT, HOWEVER AS IT'S THIN PLASTIC IT CRAKED BYT DIDN'T DAMAGE THE MAIN GRP BODY. SO IT'S SACRIFICIAL BUT UNFORTUNATELY THE SCREWS RETAINING THE TRIANGULAR REFLECTOR ALSO RETAINED THE BUMBER WERE RIPPED OUT OF THE GRP BODY. NEW BUMPER ON ORDER FROM BAILEY BUT HAS ANYONE TRIED TO DO ANY REPAIR TO GRP BODY. IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE ROCKET SCIENCE AS CARAVAN MANUFACTURE IS NOT AS SOPHISTICACTED AS CARS, INFACT MORE AKIN TO BUILDING INDUSTRY OR EVEN SIMPLER.
even if its plastic you should be able to bond P40 to it then finish off with P38 ,ours had a damaged bumper when we bought it and i did exactly that .if you can get inside a hole apply P40 from inside first ,then when dry build a bridge from outside so the original plastic is caught in a sandwich then finish off with P 38 and sand down .mesh might help to form over a hole depending on size of damage .
TIP if you have a broken piece of the plastic retain it ,then take it to a car spares shop ,motor world, halfords etc and match up the paint colour with the lids of the aerosols on sale .works a treat
p.s if the hole is large cut a oversized piece of mesh put a long screw through the middle turned a few turns then coat the edges with p40 manoeuvre through hole then pull gently towards you and hold till set ,10+ minutes depending on temp. then remove screw and build up layers
the secret is to do it in thin layers .
p.p.s from my boatbuilding/repair days fibreglass is not only supplied in mat form ,you can also buy it in a cloth bandage extremely strong and flexible used to use it to seal the seams on plywood boat construction .
Yes it's an Orion and I have ordered a replacement bumper but the thing is that the reflector screws holds the end closest to the number plate and the screws are simply retained in the GRP by their teeth only, no raw-plug or solid section, hence when the van bumped into the timber post and whilst the plastic bumper took the impact, in flexing it simply ripped the screws out and enlarged the hole. Now I need to get some GRP filler to patch it so the screws can be re-screwed into bodywork for a firm grip. SOunds a simple enough repair done it many times in the house and on cars but because of the ingress warranty I can imagine the ££££££ will mount up having to go through an Approved Service Repairer.
