The single black socket is only wired for lighting and won't power the 12v system having the auxiliary socket added by a tow bar centre would be about 45 + vat or there abouts.

Don't try to force grey socket into black plug or you will indeed break something, pins are different. As stated, you need a grey socket fitted to car. The grey cable mainly powers fridge & charges battery while you drive. If you arn't bothered about running fridge while driving & you are on ehu at site theres no real need to get a grey socket fitted.
Hi, Thanks, I use my van up in the field were i have my horses no mains there, i have trouble lighting the gas boiler if the battery is not fully charged and thought if i plug it in to the car this would help, i have used jump leads before now.
Several cheap options spring to mind, one being a length of wire with a grey socket on one end and a cigarette lighter plug on the other to enable you to use the car battery instead.
Cheapest is take the battery home with you and make sure its charged before leaving.
Have done this charged the battery but if i try to light the gas boiler it drains it.
I have a 12v socket in the boot of my car can you buy the adaptor you were speaking of, sound like a better option than jump starting it.
if you must do it leave engine running until after the 12v situation is finished or you will have a flat battery.if car battery is good then just lighting the boiler should not be a problem.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
