After loads of emails (around 30) we have managed to book a trip over the Whit weekend with our new (to us) Eriba Puck L; going with the two of us and our border terrier. As this is our first trip - going tomorrow - any words of wisdom so that we can make it a memorable trip (for the right reason). Have booked a lovely site in East Sussex between Hailsham and Polegate - will leave a review after the weekend.
Hope that everyone enjoys their weekend away (or at home) and lets pray for good (not raining) weather.
Depending on where you are going, you might be wise to put off the trip until tomorrow as the weather is gusty - quite a lot of people are leaving it a day because of the high winds, according to another thread.
Have a good time whatever you decide to do, I hope all goes ok for you! Just take it steady!
Got back yesterday, had a lovely time but the journey there was a nightmare - it was bank holiday Friday - with congested roads and awful weather - not good for first tow. Took over 4 hours to get to campsite (took 2 hours and 40 minutes to get home) and Leo (the Honda Jazz) did several wheelspins - not good for a nervous passanger (me - poor OH)!
Once onsite had a lovely time (will be doing a campsite review soon) weather on Saturday - Monday fab (wished I had packed sun cream (for me - looking slightly pink) and cap for OH (looking VERY red!); poochetta had a fab time tied to her new 'stake' (she is now in 'respite' as she is sooo tired from all the comings and goings she need to have loads of sleep)
All in all a great first time away with 'Lenny' the Eriba Puck L; so looking forward to our next outing - will need to source an awning as kids (well daughter) wants to come too.
Pop up tent for daughter is the cheapest option. A dedicated eriba awning costs a bomb - and they are heavy. Next cheapest option is a porch awning or drive away awning.
Leo ( the Honda Jazz) was fine on the way back - no wheel spins at all - he did really well ; we think it was a combination of first time towing with stuff in boot and caravan and really wet weather (hubby said might have put foot his foot down a lightly too energetically!) .
Are looking at a drive away awning - been recommended a Khyam Motordome Classic - we have a pop up tent but would be nice to have the extra room if weather not too good.
Hi Julie, glad it's nothing serious then! It does take a bit of getting used to, pulling the extra weight.
I have a lightweight van, I often put my awning, chairs, etc not in the boot, but at the back of the front seats, in the middle of the car, seems to work.
I have a movelite drive away awning, think there's a pic in my gallery. However, mine goes on the back of the van as that's where the door is - although I think something simliar would fit on a side door. It has an adjustable flap which will fit most height caravans, and then you just pull that bit taut before pegging down the awning.
You would be better off getting an Eriba Puck specific awning rather than a campervan awning, they never look 'right' on an Erbia. You have paid out for a pretty caravan, an Eriba specific awning compliments the look, a campervan awning generally ruins it.
Also a lightweight nylon awning rustles in the wind which you might find intrusive whereas a specific awning is heavier & can be strapped down, so better in wind.
I go for lightweight as it's easy to put up and doesn't eat into my max towing weight.
The enormous dedicated canvas awning which came with my caravan was so heavy, I couldn't even pick up the bag with the poles in, let alone try to put it up.
But as Tentz says, the lightweight ones do rustle in the wind.
Have been recommended an Khyam Motordome Classic from some Eriba owners on the Eriba forum. Hubby wants something that we can erect quickly, is lightweight (and relatively cheap) and will fit two 'long' teenagers to sleep and have been told that the Khyam Classic fits the bill. Have mentioned an Eriba specific awning to him but response is we could put the tent up (our Outwell Virginia 5) if we had 30/45 minutes to spare and they are really quite expensive!
Even though this is a 5 years old topic, I was wondering if you could tell which Honda Jazz (year and engine) and which Puck L (year) you were using? You are the only person that comes up searching here using a Jazz with a Puck L.
In hope that you get an email notification of this reply as this forum does not allow us to message you directly.
